The Curry Laksa Circuit...

by chiabh - last update: Jun 9, 2006

Hot and Spicy...

a bowl of curry laksa...
Curry laksa is a all-time favourite of most Malaysians and Singaporeans... It is noodle based with curry soup. The curry soup is normally satan based (ie with coconut milk) which is not very health if consumed regularly... The more the satan, the more unhealthy it is, but the better the taste... The noodles used can be mee (yellow noodle). bee hoon (thin rice vermicelli), kway teow (flat rice noodle) or wantan mee (egg noodles) etc may be used depending on customer preference... or it can be mixture of noodles such as bee hoon/mee or bee hoon/kway teow etc... Other than the noodles, the bowl is top-up with taugeh (bean sprout), tofu puffs, fish sticks, fish balls, meat balls, barbeque meat, yong tau foo, shrimp, chicken and/or cockles... To me, cockles is a must without which the laksa will lose its taste... but some customers avoid eating cockles for hygiene reasons... If the laksa is not spicy enough for you, you can add a spoonful or two of sambal chilli paste which is normally garnished with Vietnamese coriander or daum kesum (laksa leaf, a leaf for giving flavour to the taste)...

Curry laksa can be taken at all times - for breakfast, lunch or dinner... You can get laksa at hawker stalls, coffee shops, food courts and even 5* hotels... It comes in small, medium, large or extra large portions to suit your consumption capacity...

Food lovers are to note that there are various versions of laksa... Some of the favourite varieties are assam laksa (in Penang), Sarawak laksa (in Kuching), Perlis laksa (in Kuala Perlis), Nonya laksa (in Melaka) and Johor laksa. Each varient has its special taste... It is to be note that it is safer to order curry laksa if you want curry laksa as just ordering laksa will end up with you getting other varient laksa dishes (especially in Penang where laksa means assam laksa, a dish Penang is noted for)...

********
asia laksa house...

Seremban - Asia Laksa House

This curry laksa stall is very popular in Senawang, the industrial estate south of Seremban... The stall is located in the shophouse that house Restoran Asia which is owned by the laksa stall operator... It is to be noted that the operator is the brother of that of Restoran Asia in Loop Road... so we have a family receipe here...

The curry laksa is good... you have have it with cockles, tofu puff, barbeque meat and the normal laksa ingredients... You can also request for more chili or satan as well... There are also yong tau foo to go with the curry laksa and they are good as well...

Besides curry laksa, the restuarant also have stalls selling economy rice as well... but don't take the coffee, it is not up to standard...
rahang road laksa stall

Seremban - Rahang Road Laksa Stall

This wayside stall serves very good laksa as well... Do not under-estimate its un-inviting shed... Besides its good curry laksa, its stuffed tofu puff and tofu is my favourite... It also serves fried sui kow and its laksa comes with minced meat cooked to perfection... Beside the stall is a mamak stall that sells cheap nasi lemak... and there are 5 types to choose from...

The stall is located at the very busy Rahang Road about 1.5km from the Seremban Railway Station... As you drive towards the railway station, look out for a Shell petrol station on your left... The stall is just after the petrol station...
restoran asia...

Seremban - Restoran Asia

I would rate the laksa the best in Seremban... The speciality is its laksa... You can have the laksa with curry chicken, cockles or barbeque meat... its curry gravy is thick with not too much satan... Besides laksa, it serves noodle in clear soup as well, which is equally good...

The shop is locate along Loop Road... If you enter Seremban from the north, exit at the Port Dickson Interchange... Turn right at the traffic light after the toll plaza.... and then turn left immediately after the traffic light... Just go straight for about 2km and you will see Restoran Asia on the right side of the road...
restoran lau yu kee...

Seremban - Restoran Lau Yu Kee

Besides laksa, this coffee shop serves a variety of noodles such as pan mee and mee suah in clear soup... Its curry laksa is good and not so thick with satan... It also serves economy fried bee hoon and mee, fish paste, fried eggs to go with the fried noodles... and additional offerings such as pau and nasi lemak... It is a popular shop with ample car parking in the morning...

The coffee shop is located in Kemayan Square... From the north, exit at the Seremban toll plaza... turn right to Seremban town... At the second trafic light, turn right into Kemayan Square... At the first junction from the traffic light, turn left and proceed to the end... The shop is an intermediate shoplot at the last row of shophouses... The shop is closed on Sundays.

Hi Chia, nice you built a Kopi page, I haven't tried the one in Kajang yet, sure I want to go next time. Btw I noticed the Hainanese are especially good at Kopi.
