| Did someone say "cookie"? |
|  | Rocco Rocco loved to pose for photos. In this pic he was actually getting in my way while I was attempting to get pictures of Sylvester. He learned years ago that posing for pictures equals treats, so whenever he saw a camera he would pose wherever the lens was pointed.
Rocco was about as perfect as a dog can be. I got him from the pound when he was 5 months old - hard to believe someone didn't want this beautiful guy! Granted he was a huge challenge the first couple of years - Shepherds tend to be rather destructive puppies for a very long time and he was no exception. But he more than earned his keep watching out for bad guys and keeping me company. On March 17, 2008 I had to have my big beautiful boy euthanized. His hip displaysia and degenerative nerve disorder had finally taken their toll and his hind end was completly paralyzed. He was 13 1/2 years old. Please keep Rocco and all other wonderful pound/rescue animals in mind when looking for a four legged addition to your family. Finding your new pet at the pound/shelter will help save a life in addition to earning you a lifetime friend. |
Sylvester Sylvester is a stray that moved into my home just after I moved to Tennessee. He showed up one day, walked right past Rocco & I through the front door, and started eating out of Rocco's food bowl. Since Rocco HATES cats, I was incredibly surprised he survived this bold maneuver! They get along great (this does NOT mean Rocco likes cats now - he only likes THIS cat).
In this pic Sylvester had been in yet ANOTHER cat fight and sliced open the pad of his foot fairly deep. Unfortunately the location did not allow for stitches, so I was ordered to keep it bandaged and him inside the house for two weeks. He was incredibly uncooperative and after being reduced to tears (me not the cat) when he'd pulled off too many bandages to count, I decided to vet wrap the whole cat. He was incredibly pissed off, but it took him 14 hours to get that bandage off. He was even more pissed when I added an e-collar to his torture devices. | | | "I HATE YOU! Rocco had such a good time when it snowed. He'd stay outside for hours if I let him. I was surprised at this since he refused to go outside in the rain. | | | "Do I have to come inside?" |

Check out the mosquito that landed on my camera lens when I took this pic! Here Rocco has discovered that he really likes Outback Steakhouse's T-bone steak. Funny thing is that I gave him the steak right when I got home & sent him outside to eat it. He had such a difficult time deciding what to do with the steak 'cause he had to pee. He'd set the steak down, walk away a few steps, start crying, then go pick the steak up, then cry, then set it down again, and on and on.... he finally walked around the yard holding the steak in his mouth while looking for a spot to relieve himself. Had a good laugh over that one. | | | Life is good when you've got a T-bone steak! |

| | Mommy's baby girl - Lilly Ann Lilly is a special needs Australian Shepherd rescue. She was severely abused, is completly deaf, and has diminished sight in one eye. I adopted her in Feb. 2007 and it already feels like she's been part of the family forever. She copied big brother Rocco from the day she arrived and finally figured out that he was responding to my directions after several weeks in our home. She was so excited to see that it was possible to communicate directly with me! She has learned 23 signs so far & is still overjoyed whenever I "talk" to her. She loves playing with her tennis ball and will spend hours throwing it against the wall and chasing it through the house. She is also a big cuddlebug and curls up with me on the couch at night to watch TV. Lilly and Rocco got along well and he did an excellent job of babysitting, playing with her & tattling to me whenever she got into something off limits. Lilly was very lost without big brother Rocco, but is now doing much better and is helping me teach her new little brother Maks how to mind his manners. Not only is my little girl smart, she's cute too! |
Maks Maks was abandoned (along with his brother - Jackie) in my neighborhood in April 2008 - almost exactly one month after Rocco died. The puppies were 2 1/2 months old at the time and so hungry and thirsty that they were trying to eat the cactus out of the ground. Jackie immediately found a new home with some neighbors. Softie that I am, I took Maks home - with the intention of finding him a good home that would take care of him and love him like he deserved. Little did I know that his new permanent home would end up being with me. Maks is part Chow Chow, Black Lab, and German Shepherd. At 6 months old he already weighs 45 pounds and is bigger than Lilly. He is HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY about EVERYTHING! I probably should have named him "Tigger" because he bounces through life, happy as can be, never noticing the path of destruction in his wake. Having Maks move in was just what we all needed to cheer our house up - it's impossible not to laugh with him around. Lilly loves playing chase and tag with her new baby brother and even Sylvester allows Maks to sleep next to him. I will upload pictures of Maks soon. | | |
