"Microlite Over Victoria Falls" Livingstone Travelogue by travelinxs

The lads dropped me off at the Zambian border whilst they drove off to another national park. With my passport stamped I looked around for a lift to Livingstone, one-and-a-half hours away, as there was no public transport to there. It felt odd to be back alone again and back in 'Africa'.
I caught a lift with Joseph, a white Namibian, in his 30-meter big rig. A fun journey singing away to his classic 80s music collection.
Livingstone was pleasant enough, though it hardly lived up to its party town reputation.
The next day I bit the bullet and fished in my pockets for the $85 for a microflight over Victoria Falls. It was so, so much fun though. Following the heaviest rains in thirty years the water going over the edge had risen from 900 million litres per SECOND to an estimated one BILLION! Mind boggling statistics.
I was somewhat reckless in that I placed my life in the hands of an Australian, but never the less I befriended John the pilot and as I was the last passenger of the day he asked if I fancied and extra twenty minutes free to go wildlife spotting up the Zambezi River. Do monkeys like bananas? So off we went, dive-bombing the hippos and crocs.
After two nights there I awoke to the relief of my chest infection having healed, but when I went to get out of bed realised that I had somehow pulled my back out. Cursing my geriatric self, I took off for the border, crossed the Zambezi by ferry and stamped myself into Botswana, my seventeenth African country and hobbled painfully to where the boys were waiting with the car.
We drove hard down through Botswana, stopping off for the night at an uninteresting camp en route. The following day we made the east Namibian border post. In the immigration office was a small vending machine dispensing free condoms. Mickey took six, Mohammed four. Not having any use for them but always on the lookout for a freebie I took forty-six.
Finally back in Windhoek and the Cardboard Box Lodge, we returned the car and took a couple days to hang out in the modern city.
Mickey and I said goodbye to Mohammed. He was going to jump on a bicycle and head north to West Africa. I just prayed he could ride better than he could drive! But I was going to miss him, that was for sure.
Meanwhile, we jumped on a bus and took off south to South Africa and my final destination, Cape Town.
