Torture museum

by haiamisa - last update: May 13, 2006

Back in the Middle Ages...

A genuine guillotine
..life was a bit tough. To have your head chopped off by guillotine was routine. If you didn't behave, they would trap you in a cage and hang you up in the town square.
If you were a woman and were seen petting a cat... you were considered to be a witch and they would burn you alive. You could get trapped in a cage and they would hang you above some town square for folks to see as a bad example, someone who didn't behave. The dark sides of human history can be seen at this museum. After the visit you will be happy to live in the 21st century!
If I had lived back then, I think I wouldn't have dared to leave my home.... and would not have fed street cats

Where is this place and how to find it. Read about it and see more pictures here .
Women who gossiped...

Life of women...

... was especially tough. This is what happened to women who were heard gossiping.
A torture chair

Just imagine...

..having to sit on this chair for a punishment.
At the city square

And if you didn't behave...

...you would be trapped in this by the town square or any place where everybody could see you. And you would walk round and round...
Cages

Cages...

...of different styles were used for trapping people and hanging them in the air.
Burnt alive in the name of the church

Witches...

...and women who were thought to be witches were burnt alive.
Any 'odd' behavior by a woman would be interpreted to witch craft. If she had a birth mark on her face.. she was a witch. If she was seen to have any contact to cats... she was a witch. According to this most women today are witches!
Boiling point

Being boiled...

... was another possibility. They had huge soup pans for this purpose.
Hanging around in the air

Back then it was...

...daily routine to see folks hanging around somewhere in cages above squares and market places.

Yes, this is a (perhaps Q??) pilot on my right...and you're not serious about me using that hairstyle today, I was 21 back then, LOL. I can't imagine how it would look on me now, I'd probably look like Ringo Starr!! ;-)
