My Life

by Albernfrau - last update: Jun 25, 2009

Hhhmmm what can I say about myself:
I work as a municipal government worker and in my spare time I utilize my BA in Criminology as a volunteer Restorative Justice facilitator. In other words I "mediate" meetings of offenders, victims and police. It is very rewarding as I truly believe in "Restorative Justice".

On weekends we often go exploring Vancouver Island as there is so much to see here you can be a tourist forever. We especially love exploring and camping on the Gulf Islands.

I also love photography, interior decorating, gardening, researching, and reading trashy celebrity magazines!

Husband - Michael

My husband MIchael is the most incredible man on the planet. He truly inspires me to be a better person. I feel so grateful for this as I don't know many people who can say that about their partner. I'll move on now as I don't that to go to his head! But you know what it never would. It sure would if it was me!

Anyways he is orginally from South Africa and moved here about 14 years ago. When I met him he was visiting home as he had been living in Costa Rica for 3 years working as a Scuba Dive Guide. My brother met him while travelling and said I had to meet him. Well we met, fell in love immediately, got married 4 months later and I moved to Costa Rica with him. It sounds so crazy now but felt so normal at the time. So it has been 4 years now and we are enjoying sharing life, especially travelling, together!

Dog - Oliver

So my whole life I wanted a Rottweiller and I end up with a Malti-Poo! A little bit of a difference. We were living in a condo at the time I decided I was ready to get a puppy and of course there were size restrictions on what we could have there so we got Oliver, a multi-poo who probably only weighs 6 pounds.

He is so cute and I love him to death that is except when he is yappy which unfortunately he is no matter how much I try and train him not to be. He is registerd on www.dogster.com. If you have a dog check this site out!

The Three of Us

My husband was thrilled we got a small dog as he loves them! Here we are camping on Quadra Island, BC. Have dog, will travel! It was an interesting trip as we took our dog camping for the first time and my girlfriend took her baby for the first time. We had a noisy, lively campsite to say the list.

My 67 Volvo 122S

I have dreamt of owning a 60s Volvo forever! I finally found one for sale close by last year and bought it. It is so gorgeous but unfortunately hasn't proven to be the best everyday driving car especially in winter. I am currently considering whether to sell her or not. I just dread driving a "regular" car. I am currently driving an old Honda Civic until I decide what to do.

Update - I bought a brand new 2007 VW Jetta and tried to sell my Volvo but no one would buy it so we have decided to keep it and my husband is driving it and loving it!

We have now sold the Volvo.

Our Home

We bought our house in August of 2005. It was our first house as previously we had lived in a condo. This house is an old miners cottage from the early 1900s. It was moved into the town of Ladysmith when the mines closed. The inside had original hardwood floors throughout the top floor and high ceilings. It is beautiful. Since buying it I have redecorated the entire inside which has been a lot of fun. I love antiques so I am always searching for more to fill our home.
Transfer Beach, Ladysmith

Our Hometown - Ladysmith

My hometown is Ladysmith which is located between Nanaimo and Duncan. Don't know where those places are either? Well we are about 1 hr 30 min. drive north of Victoria on Vancouver Island and across the Georgia Strait from Vancouver.

This town is a heritage town with a population of approx. 6000. It is wonderful here. Check out http://www.ladysmithcofc.com/ to see more of the town.

I grew up here moved away from the ages of 20-28 and then moved back a while after getting married.

My Favourite Movie and CD - Amelie

What can I say I love this movie and the soundtrack is the best CD I own! When I went to Paris I went to most of the places this movie was filmed. I also own the soundtrack and many other CDs by Yann Tiersen.

If you haven't seen this movie please watch it! You won't be able to help but smile and be entertained. This movie is so orginal and unique!
