Baltic Sea

by Gaby_Thieme - last update: Sep 10, 2002

" stormy sea"

It first had its stormy actions with the Vikings as a trading region ,then as the Hanse and experienced its hardest time during the Cold War, being seperated through borders.
Today it is bringing countries together

Rostock:
In the year 1419 Rostock received its power from the founding of the oldest University at the East Sea erea.
After the Fall of the Hanse and a terrible fire and the following years of war,the wounds of the city slowly healed and in the 18 and 19th Century a new wind blew in fom the Sea.

Rostock held with 378 ships the record at the East Sea.
Its Rathaus was built 1250. And proudly lifts its 7 towers.
Warnemuende has been a Health-Spa since the beginning of the 14th Century. This Sea-bath envites us with wonderful, wide beaches, waves breaking against steep cliffs. Warnemuende is known as the sailor's paradise.
Westmole is over 500 meters long, a lighthouse built in 1897/98
Seeprominade = White sandy beach with Hotels and Kurhaus.
Interresting Ship-museum " Schiffahrtsmuseum"
and a smimming museum " Traditionsschiff - Dresden , a 10,000 ton High-sea freighter "

Insel Ruegen

Ruegen is the island of the white "Chalk-healing-baths"
Sassnitz is the white city at the Jasmunder cliffs. North of the sailing harbor you can scan the East Sea and the Proraer Wick. The hotel lays at the entrance at the Jasmund National Park.

We filmed the beach. It was not to warm, but a few brave souls were out on the beach. We rented a room for two nights at Ruegen Hotel Sassnitz. This hotel does not have his own parking space. So we had to pay 24 DM to park our car overnight.
Our room was simple but nice. During the evening we strolled along the beach again. There were a lot of little shops for snacks, I love the fish-sandwiches, as well as their coffee shops. There were chairs and tables to relax at the beach. Where ever there was food their were bees, lots of them.BzBzBzBz...
We walked away from the beach up to the old part of the town. We past a lot of old run down buildings where young people had found shelter to live.
My husband wanted to buy 7up to drink but we could not find it.=-)
All the public toiletts cost money , from ca.50 Pfennig to 1 DM.
Back in the hotel we wanted to go swimming in the pool.
It was next door and was included in our hotel room. The pool was great, it had a waterfall in it, jetstreams of pulsing water and a Juccusie. There were also other rooms with hot steam, Saunas, all of it was co-ed. It was very relaxing.
After that we went to eat in a cellar restaurant. There was limited space, but it was romantic. It was decorated with motives from the sea. I had Schnitzel with Paprika and Kroketten.
The next day we were spoiled with a great breakfast. The food was displayed at the front part of a ship, everything you could think of, cheese, yoghurt,sausage,fruit,eggs.......
