The Blue Mosque

The Blue Mosque

The Blue Mosque,or Sultanahmet Camii, is a huge mosque with six huge minarets. At the time this was the same number of minarets at the mosque in Mecca, so the Sultan financed a seventh minaret to be built in Mecca to avoid being seen as heretical. The number of minarets is symbolic as Sultan Ahmet was the 6th sultan to rule after the conquest of Constantinople.

The Topkapi Palace is one of the world's great palace and a premiere attraction. Visiting Istanbul without touring the Topkapi is like visiting London without seeing the Tower of London. Your trip to Istanbul is not complete without it. For that reason the Topkapi is ridiculously crowded and very expensive compared to other attractions in Turkey. The palace was first built by Mohammed the Conqueror just after his capture of Constantinople in 1453.
