Gamla with Gabi

The Ancient Trail

The two hikers
Soon after my first visit to Gamla (TL Gamla) it was time for my second visit in Gamla on the 14th of March 2006. This time I went there with Gabi and we walked the ancient trail to the ancient Gamla. The path was very steep and adventurous but we were brave and reached the first half of the ruins. We left the higher part of the ruins for the next time...
We look very happy in this picture. This was just before we went down the ancient trail. The picture was taken by a guy who spoke some strange language and he was with a family who all spoke some strange language. Anyway, there was nobody to take our picture after our hike...
we would have looked a bit different...
See the birds on the rock?

Going down...

... the ancient trail you can see many interesting things. But keep in mind: this path is only for experienced walkers!
Still not sure what birds are they...

A close-up...

... of the birds is seen in this picture.
A Roman war machine

Romans...

... fought the jews there. And you can see Roman war machines on their original places.
Catapult

Catapult...

... was another hitec machine used by the Romans back then.
The ancient synagogue

We visited...

... the ancient synagogue.
Mikveh

And...

...the ritual bath - mikveh. (But there was no water in it.)
The road back

On the way back...

...we chose not to climb the steep path, but thought that the road around would be easier. To tell the truth I am not sure if the steep path had been more difficult.. But, we made it and happily reached the parking place where our Mercedes was waiting for us. After that we drove to Kibbutz Tel-Katzir to visit Nechama and she treated us with orange juice, hummous, olives and very good stories.
What a jolly day it was!

Great photos and information - I love the photo of Lake Tiberius/bee hives ... and the hyraxes! Very interesting reading about your home town and the Mt. Hermon area. I've only seen it from a distance.
