Trocadero Gardens

by mariev - last update: Apr 29, 2006

A way to a peacefull place
Just behind the Palais de Chaillot exists a small heaven of peace : the Trocadero gardens (well, their right part - when you are coming from the Trocadero, the left one is generally busting with tourists).

To access the garden , when facing the palais the Chaillot, go completely on it's right, along the rue de Passy, push a small iron railing door an follow the path downhill.
The japanese bridge
Grass where you can seat and walk (there are benches too), a small english garden, including a mini-river, a japanese bridge and a pond.
If you look in the gardens, between the trees (of rare species), you can see an old (XVI century) lucarne door coming from the Hôtel de Ville and some remnants of the Palais des Tuileries facade (displaced here afer the destruction of the palace).
Door to nowhere
Palais de Chaillot
Walking down in the garden and arriving near the Seine, if you do a U-turrn, you are facing the Palais de Chaillot
Right : the Musee de l'Homme and the Musee de la Marine
Left : under transformation : it will host a museum/center dedicated to architecture - formerly there was the cinematheque there (now moved to Bercy)
Between the stairs going up to the Palais de Chaillot, is the oldest roller bladers meeting point of Paris, you can bring you own skates and train here.

View from the terrasse
Once you arrive on the terrasse, you have one of the best point of views on the Tour Eiffel.
The central part is very popular when the weather is hot - among tourists and locals - who come to dangle their feet in the water or take some rest.

The fountains (the complete set is called the Fontaine de Varsovie) manage to bring some cooler air in the summer, you are not supposed to go in the water (and will see many warnings : maily about the main fountains wich could be turned on - and those are real water canons -but ...

(The sculpture in the photo is "l'homme" by Traverse)
Hmm - who's looking at whom ?
Palais de Chaillot - by night
At night, the gardens, the fountains and the Palais de Chaillot are alight (very soft colour lights)
