Boarding the ship at Barcelona | Boarding the Legend of the Sea at Barcelona port |
My parents and I embarked on a 10-day cruise on the Mediterranean Sea on the Royal Carribean ship, Legends of the Sea in June 2000. We flew into Barcelona on British Airways, stayed one night and boarded the Legends of the Sea the next afternoon. The 10-day odessey through the Mediterranean took us to the ports of Villefranche-su-mer (Nice), Ajaccio (Corsica), Civitavecchia (Rome), Messina (Sicily), Valetta (Malta) and back to Barcelona. |
| | Ocean view stateroom We stayed in a ocean view stateroom which gave a good view of the sea. Complete with attached bathroom and toilet, this room was our floating hotel for 8 days. |
Formal dinners on board the Legend There was plenty to do and eat on board. Every night's dinner was a formal sit-down affair at the Main Dining Room. Jacket and tie for gentlemen and evening gown for ladies was the dress code during Captain's nights and theme nights. We were assigned to a special table for the duration of the cruise and even had our own butler. The cuisine served at dinner were the local specialities of the port of call. The most memorable dinner was the Italian theme dinner as we departed Sicily. The waiters and butlers were dressed in Italian costume and entertained us with Neopolitan songs like O Sol Mio and Come Back to Sorrento. | | | French theme dinner - our Filipino hostess |

| Swimming pool on the sun deck |
| | Basking in the sun I enjoyed basking in the sun on the sun deck, swimming in the pool and lazing around in the jacuzzi. With all the mouth-watering gourmet food on board, , the gym was where I burned off the extra calories. |
Spectacular evening entertainment Every evening after dinner, there was a spectacular floor show extravaganza at the Theater featuring Las Vegas-like cabaret revues, acrobatic shows and Broadway-style song and dance. Photography was prohibited in the Theater so I could only take a picture of an empty Theater. | | | The Theater on the Legend of the Seas |

| | Talented butlers and hostesses I was really impressed by the talented hostesses and butlers working in the Main Dining Room. Not only did they have to provide sterling service to passengers, but they also had to be versatile in song and dance. Entertaining the passengers was part of their duty. In this photo, the crew were singing Italian songs during dinner shortly after departure from Sicily. |
