Docklands, London.

by planxty - last update: Sep 2, 2006

A few efforts with my new toy.

Swing Bridge, Wapping, London.
As I mentioned in my homepage, I have bought myself a new SLR digital camera, and took it out for a "test drive" yesterday n a bitterly cold and typically overcast London January day. these are a few of my efforts.
Canary Wharf and HSBC building, Docklands, London.

The old and the new.

This photo encapsulates much of what Docklands is. The huge modern Canary Wharf and HSBC buildings rising high above a couple of old dockside cranes, reminders of the history of the area.
Working vessel, river Thames, London.

A tradition lives on.

For centuries, the river Thames was the lifeblood of lonodn, as well as it's main transport route. This vessel, in contrast to the more common passenger and tourist vessels, illustrates that whilst now not nearly so important, the Thames is still a working river.
Docklands Scene, london.

Typical scene.

This impressive building (a hotel) is fairly typical of recent Docklands development.
Limehouse Basin, Docklands, London.

Limehouse Basin

I love boats, particularly narrowboats, and there is certainly a fine selection here at Limehouse Basin.
Statue, Docklands, London.

Statues.

Everywhere you look in Docklands, there seems to be atatuary of one sort or another. Here's an example.
Docklands scene, London.

An artisitic attempt.

In an effort to be a bit creative, I took this photo from the platform of the Docklands light Railway Station at Canary Wharf. I might try and recreate it on a brighter day, but i like the way it turned out.
Inaugural tablet, Docklands, Lonodn.

The beginnings.

So this is where it all began. I rather wonder what Messrs. Hibbert and Milligan would make of it now.

Thank you so much for the birthday greetings Fergy, and for making such a big effort to go to the pub on my behalf! I am off on a trip to Marrakesh tomorrow so the celebrations will last a whole week :-) btw, any plans yet for the East End meet?
