It's so French

Home of Cognac

We didn't know what to expect when we got up that morning. We were travelling up to La Rochelle from Dax on the west coast of France, in the rain and kept seeing signs for Cognac.
Memories of nice meals finished off with a nice Brandy, trying to make your own gaelic coffee's with cream using the back of a spoon, unsuccesfully ,made us curious.
What the hell, take the turning.
I'm glad we did as it turned out to be a really good day.
As we drove into the town the rain stopped and it looked a picture.
That smell of drying streets as we walked about.
Seek the tourist information!!

The Museum, seek this gem out

This is a new venture by the town.
We tried or should I say were led to the main distillery's,
but as most english speaking tours were booked up until late afternoon
we decided to give them all a miss.
Thankfully we did and stumbled on what I can only say is the best value tour in the town.
An old converted mill by the river right next to the Hennessy distiliary has been converted into a museum.
Can't remember the cost but it can't be much if I went in.
There was a cafe where student staff were a waste of time, but the coffee was good. The tour with earphones was an education. Really peacefull with most other tourists on busy 'buy this' Cognac tours.

Hennessey's

Not a pretty building but does make my favorite cognac.
A really nice shop / entrance but get there early if you want the tour.
I assume you can book in advance.
Good value deals. Nice displays.
Don't touch!!!

Hennessy's Shop

Now that was posh.

An expensive bar, not my round!!

Hennessy shop. This is the best cognac I have ever tasted!!

La Rochelle looks fantastic. Are you a Francophile? I am a Francophile but more of a Parisophile who is counting the days until my next visit! Best regards.
