Skating In Winter

Toronto is (justifiably) notorious for its winter. Yes, the snow can be extremely pretty. Pretty yes, but dangerous too if one is not careful. Roads become slippery, people fall while walking. It is also sometimes an inconvenience. It slows traffic dramatically which then effects the economy.
In the first large picture (above), we see Nathan Phillips Square. This is Toronto's central square. The square has a pretty pond. In Winter, the pond becomes an ice skating rink! As I grew up somewhere else (with different weather) it was a culture shock for me to see people skating outdoors. Behind the square, we see what looks like a flying saucer with two circular buildings. That is, in fact, the new city hall.

I have two sets of 3 pictures below. They clearly show how often the landscape changes.

7 January, snow all around
19 January, nearly all the snow has gone.
21 January, one snowfall and the snow has returned.

19 January Ground outside my window

This picture is the same view as the previous picture.
Date taken: 19 January, i.e. 12 days later. In those 12 days, the snow has nearly all melted.

19 January Between the Buildings

This picture is the exact same view as the previous picture. The only difference, it was taken a mere 12 days later, on January, 2006.
Look at the difference in only 12 days! There are still small isolated snow patches.

21 January Ground outside my window

Two days after the previous picture (19 January) and the same scene looks like 7 January again! People come to North America for many reasons, but I doubt better weather is one of them!

21 January Between the Buildings

21 January, 06
Just 2 days after the previous picture and bingo, the snow is back.
It just takes one snowfall to make the first and third picture of the same scene, identical again.
