So what is a National Geographic type of photograph?
Well, a typical photograph that makes it to the National Geographic print stage is the one that freezes a moment of an event in such a way that it describes the whole event, the entire environment surrounding it, the subject, and yet it does not make the subjects in the photographs concious.
For example, this picture shows Pakistan in 1985. The Photograph is taken by George F. Mobley.
Mountain polo players take part in a practice match at Chitral Polo Field in northwestern Pakistan. This game, arguably Pakistan's favorite sport, differs dramatically from the European version. In mountain polo, six players instead of four compete on a longer, narrower field. And the near absence of rules encourages a rowdy, fast-paced, frequently violent clash.
(This Photograph was shot on assignment for, but not published in, the National Geographic book Mountain Worlds, 1988)
As a family, we love National Geographic and the Canadian Geographic. Our conservation efforts stem for reading accounts of environmental degradation in this magazine. |
| Scott's dog Duke leads him sled down a slope |
| | Sledding around Kodiak, Alaska Here is one such picture from the records of VTer Scott (herzog63 on VT). Scott went out for sledding with his wife Jamela, son Hadji and dog Duke. Here, he almost sleds over Duke. |
A less visited sandy beach of Dubai, UAE. Dawood watches as he makes sand castle, while Rayyan throws a fistful of sand along the sea breeze on Mina Siyahi, Dubai. The 7 star Burjul Arab is in the background. This narrow tract of sandy beach that used to attract westerners on weekends has been lost to waterfront development that started in Dubai with aboom in 2002. | | |

| | Performing Dolphin at Brookfield Zoo, Illinois The performance of dolphins at Brookfield zoo is simply awesome. The educatainment program draws huge crowds. The zoo itself demands at least one full day to explore all of its collection. |
