Dinosaur Deep-Freeze - Pittsburgh in Winter

by Lacristina - last update: Dec 11, 2005

His Name is "Dippy."

Sartorial splendor in the snow
Dippy is a diplodocus carnegii - named for the Scottish-born steel magnate, Andrew Carnegie, who bankrolled some explorations of dinoasaur fossil finds in the American west. Dippy stand frozen outside the Carnegie Museum / Library / Concert Hall complex in the Oakland neighborhood of the 'Burgh.

Some local pundits have done a psychological post-mortem of the diminutive magnate ( he was about 5'3" tall or 1.6 meters) and his craze to acquire the bones of the largest known dinosaur of the time for his new museum.

I drive past Dippy every night on my way home from work. Every winter Dippy gets a scarf. It always makes me smile.

Saw your note on Aussiejen's page: you're a wild couple. We got home from Spain and Morocco last night but my head is still to arrive!

Grazie for BD greeting - it was just a ton of fun and I don't feel any older than I was the day before! Ray's cake is in the freezer - I ate yours! <(•¿•)>

Your photos of Pittsburgh brought back fond memories. I lived in both Squirrel Hill and Shadyside and also graduated from Pitt. Grazie, Paul.
