Fruitlovers' Kingdom | World devided by the Equator |
I'm suggesting you, the Fruit Lover(actually or potentially), a virtual club with exchange of information, impressions, tips, recipes, short history, origins, etc.. Any creative ideas will be welcomed. In this Album and in many of my pages you can find travelogues dedicated to fruits of these countries. I'm collecting the tips and the pictures with help of VT friends, and you're invited to visit the trevelogues, read the stories of fruits and fruity beverages of the country - and SEND ME INFORMATION/ PICTURES/ REFERENCE you want to share with all of us. I began my Fruit 'project' as a light amusement. It' s my hobby, no business interets involved, only 'cause of curiosity and exploratory uncontrolled desire (I'm a lecturer for Statistics, Research Methods & Mathematics at university), and for fun. Your responses and feedbacks help me find myself, within 5 months, deeply addicted to fascinating internet experience of exploring, collecting and introducing information and pics from all over the globe about fruits & fruity beverages from many aspects: Tasteful, visual, social, folkloristic, traditional, and more. Some VT's friends urge me to make that hobby more comprehensive, organized and systematic, and I love the idea. My first name is Avi (Avraham), and I'm a vegetarian since age of 5 (personal taste, not idealism), addicted to fruits of all kinds ,derivatives, seasons, fresh, dried, tropic, exotic,(fortunately not alcoholic) - you name them. Actually this homepage is I N T E R A C T I V E. I have the sublime privilege to be born and live in Israel, "The Promised Land", which is according to Bible: "A land of weat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates, a land of oil, olive, and honey" (Deuteronomy, 8, 8)(4 out of 7 are fruits). In Hebrew: "Eretz hita useora vegefen ute'ena, verimon eretz zeit, shemen udvash"(Devarim, h, h). The Fig symbolizes femininity, productivity & abundance, the Apple - love & temptation, the Date - male fertility, Pomegranate - abundance, Peach - immortality, and Lemon - purity & loyalty. Click HERE to meet some of Israeli delicious & appetizing fruits. |

| | ! ! <<===India: fruitlovers paradise! ! ! Quotations about the connection between tourism, folklore and fruits: kinga_freespirit "Hey Fruitlover! I'm a fruitlover too! That's what I loved most about my journey - discovering fruit that I hadn't even imagined that existed... :)"
VT'er irisbe: "Very interesting topic :-) Certainly a part of traveling is the local taste of local food and fruit is one of them! Next time I keep my eyes open on markets and try to spot what they have :-) We should not forget the old values of the plants and fruits amongst us... some are indeed real medicines :) amazing how you build up all these pages with this interesting info!"
==:::The Human Being - A Fruit Eater ? a food for thought Many people think we are omnivorous by nature and proud of the fact that they 'tolerate' everything. Scientists believe that millions of years ago we nourished ourselves primarily from fruits. The primates that genetically resemble us most closely, eat raw plants foods almost exclusively. When they have fruit available to them, they prefer it to everything else. From the length of our (human beings) digestive channel and shape of our teeth - it's clear that we are not meant to be meat-eaters. By studying the fossil teeth of our ancestors, Dr Alan Walker, the famous anthropologist at John Hopkins University, has determined that all of the teeth studied from people who lived from 12 million years ago up to Homo Erectus were the teeth of fruit-eaters, without exception. Each of us can bring more light into our life. We can feel lighter and more energetic. Eating the sweet fruits of paradise is a way of giving your soul more harmony and developing Sattva consciousness (Sattva is the consciousness of light, clarity and knowledge in Ayurveda, the oldest existing health system in the world) Why do most young children usually prefer sweet Bananas, Mangoes, or Papayas to Apples?? Why do many adults prefer exotic/ tropical fruits to those of their homeland?? It has been scientifically proved that we haven't always lived in the temperate zones. We inherited our genetic constitution from primates and they come from the tropical regions. |

| Miss Lychee 1999 in China |
| | Lychee in China Check Confruitcuis Genzi page: Lychee paradise on earthRead about Yang Guifei, who was one of the Four Beauties of ancient China. Lychee was a favorite fruit for Yang, and the emperor had the fruit, which was only grown in southern China, delivered by the imperial messenger service's fast horses, whose riders would take shifts day and night in a Pony Express-like manner, to the capital: Yang Guifei-Most historians believe the fruits were delivered from modern Guangdong, but some believe they were delivered from modern Sichuan- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |
| | Cloudberry - Did you know? Pic sent by VTer cloudberryThanx, Tarja! Enjoy! Cloudberries occur naturally throughout the Northern Hemisphere from 78°N, south to about 55°N, and very scattered south to 44°N mainly in mountainous areas. In Europe and Asia, they grow in the Nordic countries, the moorlands of Britain and Ireland, the Baltic states, and across northern Russia east to the Pacific Ocean. [Wikipedia - free encyclopedia on the net] The ripe fruits are golden-yellow, soft and juicy, and are rich in vitamin C. When eaten fresh, cloudberries have a distinctive tart taste. They are often made into jams, juices, tarts or liqueurs. In Finland the berries are eaten with "Leipäjuusto" (a local cheese) and much sugar. In Sweden, they are also used as an ice cream topping. In Canada, cloudberries are used to flavour a special beer. |
