TICKETS FOR JEAN MICHEL JARRE CONCERT

The above two small pieces of paper and no vacancy in all hotels and hostels in Gdansk brought me to Kolbudy. As soon as I'd accepted limited comfort but low price and pretty settings of my hotel, I decided to stay there next 3 nights. But, being crazy about nearby Gdansk I didn't have time to visit interesting, I am sure about it, Kashubian countryside around Kolbudy.

I've just checked quite good and very informative official Kolbudy website. Unfortunately part of the webpage is available exclusively in Polish language. First I leant a lot about history of Kolbudy.

The name Kolbudy (German Ober/Unter Kahlbude) was first mentioned in 1395 when the Great Master of the Teutonic Order passed this tiny hamlet with a watermill to Carthusian monks from Kartuzy (German Karthaus). The village and the mill belonged to the monks during next almost 400 years. In the end of 18th century Prussians took control over the village and passed it to settlers. In 1807 the village was incorporated to the Free City of Gdansk.

It's interesting that till WII there were 2 villages: Upper Kolbudy and Lower Kolbudy which belonged to seperate counties. Both were inhabited half by half by catholic Kashubians and evangelic Germans. The catholic church in Kolbudy was built in 1980' in modern style that didn't attract me.

I promised myself to come back to Kolbudy to see more. Being a last-minute traveller I never have enough time to prepare my numerous trips. That's why I decided to give some information usuful for my next trip in this travelogue just now.
