This area should be called the Serengeti of Belgium, you can find many similarities with the Tanzanian example. We have an artificial crater, open plains a relatively big amount of wildlife and last but not least, the beauty and tranquility. |
Normally they call this area "Achter de Witte Bergen"(behind the white mountains) and it's located in the Northern part of Houthalen - Helchteren in the Helchteren Forest-Remo-Stakeberg area. It's a part of a military domain and only open for public use on Sunday's. The place is very difficult to reach because of its remoteness and an absence of paved roads. |
So, the only advice is to leave early in the morning on foot together with your lunch packet and binoculars (that's what I always do) and enjoy the misty morning and the abundance of wildlife. -Deer -Large birds: Hawks, falcons, herons,... -Small birds: sparrows, blackbirds,... -Rabbits and hares -Foxes |

KiKitC Tue Nov 25, 2008 14:14 UTC Looks and sounds wonderful to visit Houthalen. Old mining trails out here offer great off-roading...but I may be in for a balloon flight over that beautiful country. Thanks for the great tips. | AgentBrittany83 Mon Apr 7, 2008 01:02 UTC Belgium is a great place indeed. I'm going back in December! | hunterV Fri Feb 22, 2008 18:44 UTC Ian, your place is very nice indeed! See you in Belgium some day (hopefully)! | Laura_Mexico Sun Jan 27, 2008 03:36 UTC Very nice wildlife pictures -- didn't imagine that you had such a place in Belgium. And... it's great that you already have a welcome msg in Spanish on your main page ;) Cheers! |
