I have noticed that Vietnam is increasingly unpopular with the backpackers, but the older crowd totally loves the country and i have never had one person on my tour who was negative about the place.
I think that the backpackers are a little taken back because most of them arrive from quiet quiet Laos and then hell breaks lose with lot´s of noise in Vietnam.
I must say that personally i like it more and more as i visit again and again.
I can´t stand Thailand on the other hand and do everything i can to avoid the place, but that is mostly because of the kinda tourists it attracts more than it is the actual country.

Hi Chris. Are you in China at the mo?? I'm off to Lundy next week for what I hope is going to be a couple of years of cooking and maybe writing (and a few pics thrown in). If you are still persona grata on the island give me a shout and we'll grab a beer at the Tavern - I can pick up the travel bill and put you up in the Pigs.
