High water - Accqua Alta - normally happens in the autumn-winter months so for this to happen in June was rare. Indeed some local Vt'ers had never experienced this before so just typical it had to happen whilst we were visiting for a few day! This pic shows the water beginning to creep up the Piazzata just outside St Marks. |
| | ...and still rising - and you can see by the colour of the sky that a storm was brewing. |
| | The water was beginning to rise in the square itself. |
| | It was so much fun watching people trying to cross the square by various means...some put plastic bags on their feet. See all those chairs there was supposed to be a concert in the square this night - I don't know if it went ahead but it probably would have been deafened by the thunder that night..lol. |
| | This was a view of the street our hotel was on - both sides were underwater....... |
| | .... so it was a case of shoes off and paddling back to the hotel. |
| | Later on when we decided to go out for the night this was the scene that met us in our hotel lobbey - underwater and raised walkways out! |
| | Here's another view of the lobby. |
