What led me to Toronto | Patty (hexepatty) and Brad (bradbrown) |
BradBrown, VT's very own Romeo, was the first to mention the Toronto Meeting to me (along with every other woman on VT!) and I kept it in the back of my mind until Kat (keida84) mentioned it to me again, I found a ticket on United that would only cost me 15,000 miles, persuaded my good buddy Rob (rmdw) to join me and I was set to go to Toronto! |
| Rob (rmdw) and Steve (NC_Ziggy) |
| | Great to catch up with old "real life" friends.... Seems Torontoians and Vancouverites have a similar relationship to New Yorkers and Chicagoans, rivals yet in the end, we seem to enjoy each other's cities, even if at first it is begrudingly.
Rob made it no secret that he was not overly fond of Toronto before this visit but seems he had a change of heart, even publically announcing it at the Sunday brunch. :-)
I've become real life friends with many people on VT, Rob (rmdw) is one that I've shared many meals with over the course of his visits to Chicago and I really enjoyed the time we spent together in Toronto. But shhh, don't tell him or his head will swell!
Pictured with Rob is Steve, a true southern gentleman that I had the pleasure of spending time with on our walking tour on Saturday and for dim sum that afternoon. Check out his pages, he has a great writing style! |
| Hansi, Chris (Balfor) and Lori (loripori) |
| | meet up again.... I had met Chris (Balfor) in Washington DC last year and it was great to catch up with him in Toronto over dinner on Friday and Saturday night. Chris is a generous guy, interesting to talk to and I hear he bakes a mean cake :-) |
| Kat (keida84) and Hansi (waaleweiner) |
| | meet virtual ones..... It was great to meet Kat (keida84), a wonderfully warm person with a terrific spirit. |
| | and make new ones After brunch on Sunday, most people headed home but we had decided to stay on for another day. The weather foiled my plan to head over to the Toronto Islands so Rob and I spent a leisurely afternoon strolling the waterfront and wandering through downtown Toronto with Ed (Kaspian), recently voted VT Hot Man of the Week after his two night stand in Toronto (ladies, please don't throw your underwear on stage!). What you might not know about Ed is beyond his sexy lumberjack exterior lies a genuine interesting man with a charming personality. I hope our paths cross again someday. We'll look the other way when you put that maple syrup on those pierogis at Pierogi Fest ;-)
Patty was one of my roomies at the Hilton, I adored her from the minute I met her. Such joy of life and generous spirit, a blast to hang around with! Come to Chicago soon Patty!!! |
| Hansi with his ever present video camera |
| | and more new ones And what can I say about meeting the King of VT, the irrepressible Hansi (Waaleweiner) and his lovely wife Lori (loripori)? He lights up the room and not just because he has his video camera aimed right at you. It was such a pleasure to finally meet you in person, Hansi, and it's never too soon to start thinking about coming to Pierogi Fest next July! |

Kaspian Mon Mar 31, 2008 23:03 UTC Yep!! I snagged it! $605 ($350 + taxes) return to Frankfurt on the fabled "AirTransat" which, according to you, doesn't exist. Now if you really think about it... You've seen me in Europe before so I must be getting there somehow. >:D | SWFC_Fan Tue Mar 18, 2008 19:40 UTC Chinese food AND Greek food...Toronto is foodie heaven! :-) Niagara Falls looked amazing with the snow and ice, but the "Maid of the Mist" boats weren't running...so I'll have to return there one summer! | dejavu2gb Wed Nov 1, 2006 13:22 UTC Nice Toronto page... I did not see any tips on The CN Tower... or am I being blind again. I so want to visit toronto cos it looks stunning, and yes... also for a little bit more blue on my map... hehehe | deecat Mon Mar 6, 2006 16:28 UTC Looks like this was a great VT time, regardless of the weather. Your restaurant tips are excellent. I also always enjoy your hotel writeups...detailed and helpful. I smiled a good deal while viewing the travelogues. |
