Paris Metro Ligne 2

Intro

Metro ligne 2 from way on high
This is the metro line that I take to go to work. I'll be visiting some of the more interesting stations and suggesting some things to do.

Part of line 2 from Colonel Fabien to Barbes is above ground. It goes through some neat ethnic neighborhoods and is a good choice for Sunday visiting because so many shops are open.
Free parking

Menilmontant

Use this as a stopping off point for rue Oberkampf. It's my favorite area for restaurants cafés and nightlife. It's young and trendy without being pretentious and over the top.

There is always a nice mix of people and as of yet it has not been overrun by tourists.
Belleville on Sunday

Belleville

One of the stops on line 2 is Belleville, Paris' second Asian neighborhood and home to two of my favorite Asian restaurants.
Headquarters

Next stop Colonel Fabien

Home of the French Communist Party headquarters and a good stopping of point to go up to Buttes Chaumont
From below

Between Juares and Stalingrad

Stop here for the Bassin de la Villette. It's neat, you can rent boats, go to the cinema and some people even fish for carp. A nice place to take a walk on a Sunday as well.
Metro map at Monceau

Parc Monceau

This is the stop for the beautiful parc Monceau and here is a real insider tip. If you arrive between 9 - 9:30 a.m. you may get to see the neighborhood firemen doing their jogging. It's not every day but I often see them on my way to work and they are in really good shape!

Anyway, in keeping with my Sunday things to do in Paris theme this is a great place to relax, people watch and get a tan (weather permitting). You can sit on the grass during the summer season (starting early May). There is a stand that sells sandwiches, drinks, candy etc. and there are even Ponies for the kids.

Lovely look at your hometown, Emily. Loved the restaurant tips, and the Ag Fair sounds interesting as well... sausagemakers, winemakers, cheesemakers. Merci. :)

What wonderful photos of Paris! What a wonderful view to have when you wake up. You were featured on the VT home page when I logged in, and I'm glad I stopped by to see what you had.

I love your Paris pages. I used to live in Belleville when I was studying French more than 20 yrs ago. Your page brought back old memories:-D

Paris VT pages are always enjoyable, you're fortunate to live there. Now you have posed a problem for me: to next visit during the Agricultural Fair or the Salon du Chocolat! :))
