Still Remember...

Little girl in Nagorno Karabak, Armenia 2004
I can still remember vividly the emotions, the glow in the eyes of the little girl to this very day when I handed her a little Barbi doll I had purchased from the local grocery store hours ago.... It meant the world was hers; it meant a new hope, a page had turned inside a chapter of her life.. She looked up at me with big dark glowing eyes and as she grabbed a hold of the barbi doll in the box, she hung her head down and said not a word.. Slowly with outmost care she began taking the doll out of the box as if it was her most precious possession.. She quietly left the table and sat down on the floor behind us bonding with the little blonde doll...

The glance or the moment our eyes met was only a second or two but the emotion exchanged to this day warms my heart when I think back of the day and the little girl.. Her mother's face sitting at our table also glowed with joy and one could feel the joy and the emotions of a mother toward her child in the room.. It was a great moment.. It was an unforgetable moment for me..

The little girl had not seen her dad ever.. When her mother was pregnant, the father had traveled for work overseas and no one had ever heard or seen him ever since.. The little girl lived with her mother and grandmother in a little rural house up above a steep hill in Nagorno Karabkh.. She is so precious!! One who deserves to see better times in this world..

Our hearts and prayers are with the little girl and her family and when God willing we get the chance to travel to Armenia, we would love to meet her again!!

That's the story I felt like writing about and sharing with you today.. The story of the little girl with big dark round eyes and her blonde barbi doll...

Actually, the hammer and sickle are a post Soviet bit of capitalist marketing for the business on the corner - but it's still kitschy-cool. It's on the corner of Nalbandyan and Aram St, right across from Republic Square metro.
