So Much To See, To Do, To Learn and so Little time WELCOME TO OUR HOME PAGE!Thank You for dropping by and viewing our homepage. As you can see I come from a large family. Ten girls and two boys. Fortunately, all of us are happily married with some of us with children. Having come from a large family, we do have a sibling that lives is married to an Italian, then one married to a Spanish, then there is another one that is married to an Australian, and few married to Americans and some married to Asians. So, when any of us travels which is in constant travelling, we normally have sibling to visit somewhere around the world. One of our most unforgettable year was 1969 when my sisters won the Ms. Universe Contest. She happened to be the first Miss Universe that won in the Philippines and my folks and all of us were very proud and happy for this victory. Most of my younger years I spent it in Manhattan, New York until I got married here in Barcelona. It certainly is just the opposite of NY, as life here is soooooo much slower than what I am used to. My husband and I travel just about every six months within Europe, U.S.A. and Asia. |
Downtown - Known as Barrio Gotico or Old Town The Barrio Gotico or Gothic Quarters happens to be one of the oldest districts of Barcelona from the many local or older timer´s here in Barcelona´s point of view. Right on the Gothic Quarter almost next to this would be ‘Las Rambla’, the two kilometer avenue which stretches from Plaza Catalunya to Barcelonas Port and is generally considered the spirit of downtown Barcelona. Included on the list of ‘Must See’ is the La Boquería Market – an open air fresh food market, the Gothic Church – Barroca de Betlem, the Palacio de Moya, the Academia de las Ciencias and the Casa Bruno Cuadros. The area used to be known as the neighbourhood of the Cathedral but nowadays its better known as the Gothic Quarter or The Old Town. It is the centre of Barcelonas´ history and as such is also the oldest urbanized part of the city. Throughout the centuries and up to this date it has had the role of being Barcelonas´ political and institutional centre point. Here you will find the magnificent Gothic structures built during Barcelonas zenith and which give evidence of the important cultural role it played during the Middle Ages. The city council has also preserved the old Roman fortifications and palaces such as the temple dedicated to Augusto and some of the Roman Walls still remain in tact. The Gothic Quarter is visited by tourists each year and its one of the areas most sought after to live in. It´s easy to loose yourself in the quaint windy streets and the variety of bars and restaurants will always make a coffee break worthwhile. On Carrer de Ferran and Carrer Jaume 1, as well as in most of the streets in the upper half of the Gothic you will find all kinds of shops, from the well known high-street clothes stores to little stationary shops. In the lower half of the Gothic Quarter towards the Port area, you will find the streets getting narrower and a little gloomy but they too have their attractions and are worth a visit even just to try some of the local pastries and cakes in the one of the many café´s. Some of the attractions in the area are Plaza del Reial and of course not forgetting the famous Gothic Cathedral. Will attach photos much later - for your viewing. |
