I love food | Classic strudel, Cafe Doris, Castelrotto |
The Trentino Alto-Adige region has some great food, but don't expect to find your classically Italian spaghetti ai frutti di mare in the mountains though!!
Think along the lines of strudel, speck, wild game and lots and lots of sausages.
The following photos are a selection of some of the more memorable foods we encountered. |
| | At the Sagra di Castelrotto (Castelrotto Fair) Our grilled chicken, sausage and steak served with polenta and bread with a big beer, eaten under a giant tent with an Alpine band playing |
| | Desserts galore at the Sagra di Castelrotto Strudel, strudel, krapfen and other wild-berry topped pastries |
| | At the Spitzbulhutte refuge Supposedly a goulash, but didn't look very goulashy to me. Nonetheless very very good! |
| | At the Spitzbulhutte refuge Lovely speck and eggs on a bed of potatoes |
| | A lovely meal at the Orlo del Bosco, Ortisei Nettle gnocchetti with a venison sauce. Too yummy to believe... I could've eaten about 3 helpings of this |
| | At the Orlo del Bosco, Ortisei Deep-fried camembert with a cranberry sauce. |
| | Orlo del Bosco, Ortisei The thickest freshly-made cranberry juice I've ever had. You had to eat it rather than drink it |
