The symbol of a free spirit I just adore dragonflies. They are EVERYWHERE in and around our house. I totally freak out when I see dragonfly 'anything' and immediately buy it... One of the ideas I had while in the early planning stages of the wedding... have PLENTY of dragonflies in the theme of the wedding. The wedding itself was an Irish / Celtic theme. But I had to work my dragonflies in! So, I turned to eBay... I found necklace sets for Carrie, Emmy, Ashley & Sami (all different colors but same style, with dragonflies & roses); I found dragonfly pendants for my mom & Jeff's mom, which I crafted corsages out of; I also found a site that sold plain venise lace dragonflies, which I dyed to match my the colors of our wedding. I dyed a batch 'wine' for my gown, and a batch 'ivory' for Emmy's dress. Hers were not as visible on the back of her dress because she didn't have a train... but mine were sewn onto the sheer tulle layer that cascaded down the satin layer of my dress... sort of floated... and the dragonflies that I hand-sewed on looked like they were 'flying' up the train. My lovely dragonflies were everywhere! I had a rhinestone pendant on my bouquet, Carrie had a pink one on hers... Emmy and Taylor had dragonflies (iron-ons, very colorful) on their basket & pillow. Rob took this picture while my dress was hanging from a ceiling hook in the master bedroom closet... I'd ironed & steamed the gown a few days before (Jeff was not allowed in the closet for a few days!!!). I told Rob I have some unique things about my gown and he just went ta work! |
Talking to my Intended while he was at the HB Jeff, Barry (Carrie's hubby) and Mark were at the Hofbrauhaus to set up the reception favors & tables. Since us lassies had so much to do with our hair and make up (and let's face it; it takes chics longer to get dressed...), the boys were at the HB passing out CD's, candles, the 'kisses' spoons, and setting up the gift table & cake table. Jeff had several questions that only I could answer, so we chatted fer a few. Rob took many, MANY pictures of me, Carrie & Em while we were getting ready! Lots of cute pre-wedding shots. |
Emmy waiting patiently for her turn... Em sits on the stoop of the master bathroom shower, while I get myself finished off so I can start on her hair. We simply ponytailed her thick, straight hair, curled it with a 2-inch barrel iron, and clipped on a ponytail of fake hair I'd bought months before. It matched her brunette hair perfectly. We capped off her hairstyle with a tiara made out of porcelain roses and pearls, with long ivory & wine ribbons trailing down her back. Beautiful!!! She was sorta bored in this shot I think; we woke up at a decent time and all, but I'm sure all the activity in the house (and the weirdness of having Rob take pictures of us in our jammies) was uncomfortable for a young girl. But she did VERY well. Smiled the whole time and was just wonderful! |
The 'welcome table' at Trinity Baptist This took some serious thought & craftyness!!! I already had the Irish bear from my trip to Vegas. Found the German bear on eBay (duh)... The frames, a beautiful silver Celtic weave, I found at Target. I put Jeff's proposal poem, the actual piece of paper he held in his hands while he proposed to me at the kid's school, in the larger frame; and the picture the 5th grader took of us, while Jeff was down on one knee (and me so excited!), in the smaller frame. Decorated them both with the same porcelain roses used in Emmy's tiara, stuck some smamrock stickers on... "Engaged on St. Patrick's Day, 2006". I found the rose-print tablerunner on eBay, too, AND the freeze-dried Shamrocks! The shamrocks were extremely fragile and 'most' survived; now, they're gathered into a little votive cup on the sideboard in our dining room. The green flowers in the back are called "Bells of Ireland"... minty-pink stems which I used on the candleabras in the church as well as our welcome table set up. I also brought from home 3 tea-light holders that I'd bought from Yankee Candle; they are green with dragonflies on them (I mentioned I buy ANYTHING with dragonflies on it...)... Rob snapped a few shots of this because I asked him to... he didn't miss a beat. |
Taylor's Ring Pillow This was one of my first creations. Turned out brilliant!!! One of my favorite candid shots is this close up of Taylor's pillow. Those are our actual wedding rings tied to it. I didn't want to put 'fake' rings on the pillow (like most people do) because frankly I think that's stupid if the ring bearer is old enough and RESPONSIBLE enough... which of course, Taylor is. I bought the pillow (it was a cast-off, dirty Christmas pillow) for $3 at Old Tyme Pottery... covered it in the silk paper I used on the cake... and began gluing and weaving peach and ivory satin ribbon I bought in bulk at a local craft store. Weaved some thin wine ribbon through it to hold the rings... glued on the iron-on dragonflies that I also used on Emmy's basket... and voila! A lovely homemade keepsake. |
The Bagpiper Saga! This all started last Spring after our engagement, once we decided on the Celtic / Irish theme for the wedding, and the German theme for the reception. I have been to a few funerals and St. Pat's parties where they have bagpipers playing; and well I just love the sound of the pipes. Makes ya feel like you are in the Emerald Isle! I searched on the net and found a piper. His name was Mike. I hired him, and never heard from him, UNTIL 2 weeks before the wedding! He explained that he normally waits until right before the wedding, because he "knows that Brides are under extreme stress" and doesn't want to bother them! So one DAY before the wedding --- a get a call from a lady who says Mike's mom was sick and he could not play our wedding. She said she would step in for him. I explained she'd have to play OUTSIDE --- in the single-digit temps --- in front of the church, before and after the wedding! And I knew from Mike, that it takes specially made pipes to play in such temps! Janet said she couldn't do it but had someone else in mind. That someone else called me a few hours later and stepped up. His name was Chris Paul, and he saved us! I got to hear the tunes! Chris was dressed in all his Irish finery, and according to the guests who heard him (I barely heard him), he played "flawlessly" and "was quite a trooper" because it was SO COLD outside. Chris came into the church to warm up, while our processional was getting ready to start. As I was standing at the mouth of the worship hall with Carrie, Em & Taylor, Chris told me that he really loved being picked to play this wedding; he told me I looked beautiful and the church looked beautiful; and he was very happy for Jeff and me. He also signed our signature mat --- "Chris PIPER Paul". Rob wanted Jeff and me to pose for a shot with Chris, but I was just too dang cold. I sorta wish we'd gotten a shot of us in the background, kissing or something... but at least we have a few of Chris playing. |
Now THIS is a candid! "Groom Chokes Ring Bearer" ... actually... Rob was busy taking pictures of everyone signing the marriage certificate. Carrie, Mark, Jeff and me along with the Pastor. Taylor & Em hung nearby... Rob snapped a shot of Jeff smiling BRIGHTLY, showing off his wedding band; Taylor was in the background, making bunny ears overtop of his head... poking fun at Dad. So Jeff turned around and 'fake choked' him. They are quite a pair. My husband and stepson. =-D |
Warming up before heading to the HB! It was SO COLD in that church! I think they were trying to freeze us out! It was lovely, a beautiful setting, and our day-long decorating Feb 9 with Barry & Carrie paid off just smashingly! I had my change of clothes in that big white bag (to change to go par-tay after our reception... yeah we like to par-tay) and I could not get my coat on the right way; so I put my arms in and draped it in front of me. Rob took many pictures of us as we were getting all coated up and gathering our stuff from the church, after the 'posed professional pictures', and we were trying to get to the Hofbrauhaus because as Sandy said... "your guests are getting impatient and want ta know where you are!".... The beer & wine was flowing grandly and I think people wanted to say Slainte & Prost to the Bride & Groom. So out we went, into the freezing cold, Carrie carrying my long train so the snow would not get it, Barry & Mark helping Jeff load up stuff into the mom's trucks (kept most of the decorations; donated the rest to Trinity Baptist), and us being so-very-happy that the hardest part was over with. |
