Hunters Point Long Island City | rezoning from industrial to residential |
This section of Queens is called Hunters Point and it is a small neighborhood in Long Island City Queens. Literally, its a stones throw away from Manhattan. From the Vernon/Jackson 7 subway stop, its less than five minutes to Grand Central Station and less than 10 minutes to Times Sqaure.
This section of Queens used to ZONED as a dense industrial sector of the city as you can still see from the picture. However, The Commissioner is re-zoning Hunters Point right now one block at a time--converting Hunters Point into a high demand residential area.
Within the scope of five blocks, I counted three new condomium developments. There used to be four large smokestacks right next to the river that a developer has bought and already torn down to replace with a luxury high rise condo development.
If you are looking into buying New York City real estate, this would make a good place to start. In ten years, once Long Island City is more thoroughly rezoned, it will literally be a residential extension of Manhatttan's Midtown East. LIC is quiet at night too. |

| | UN on left, Trump Int'l Tower on right This is a picture taken from the shore of Long Island City. Long Island City is right on the water...as you can see here. Its a wonder how it took the city so long to rezone Long Island City from an industrial oasis into residential neighborhood.
The UN is on the left. 845 U.N. Plaze otherwise known as Trump International Tower is the tall black building on the right and you can see the slanted top of the Citigroup center on the far right.
If you get a place in on of the high rises, this might be the view outside of your window. Not bad eh? |

| | Long Island CIty gives unsurpassed skyline views Heres another shot with the Empire State Building on the left and the UN on the right.
Long Island City right now is a combination of industrial and residential zoning. The section next to the Vernon/Jackson subway stop is gaining momentum with a few new restaurants, art galleries and other businesses.
Personally, I don't foresee Long Island City becoming the next Williamsburg Brooklyn (too hip for school art crowd). But I do foresee the real estate prices here breaking the stratosphere sometime in the next ten years. |
