Buying Lambs near Raglan.

by kiwi - last update: Aug 11, 2005

This is "Heartland" New Zealand, and my life.

Jumping Lamb
We often go over to Raglan to buy lambs, bring them home and fatten them for a few months, then they supply the meat market, mostly exported overseas. So if you buy New Zealand lamb at your supermarket, outside of NZ, it could have come from this area.
Some Kiwi Blokes.

Kiwi Blokes.

This is the real thing, Kiwi Blokes buying lambs and checking the prices and lambs available. Big decisions, ride on this information.
C'est moi!

I was there.

Someone had to take the photos, LOL.
The gang.

Lamb buying team.

My farmer and our visitors. They came to buy lambs with us.
Black Sheep

The real Black Sheep!

It's not uncommon to find a black lamb, really just a freak, but it does happen often. I'm always amazed at the darkenss of the black colour that nature can produce, seen here accetuated by having just been shorn.
Cutie Pie

He's so cute!!

What can I say, he's cute and stands out. Hoping someone will take him home and love him. Reality is another story however!
More faces.

Another pen to show you.

If you want, you can buy black faced sheep, from the South Suffolk variety. Their faces stay black as they grow up and wool stays white.
Yarding the sheep.

Here they come!

They move pretty fast when they get going, but they are oh so cure coming at you. This is where they get counted as well.

Click on this easy link to see the rest of the photos of the sheep in Part 2.
