Where I didn't succeed in going to Vegas last time I was in the US, I did manage to go this time. In the Centennial weekend I went to Vegas at the time it celebrated it's 100th birthday.
Vegas is like something I have never seen before, just one strip filled with Casino's, casino's, more casino's and bars and restaurants. Luckily I had a car with me because I had driven from Los Angeles to Las Vegas which came in handy really good to drive from one casino to the next. |
| | Road trip to Vegas Like I said, I drove to Las Vegas from Los Angeles, actually from Anaheim but that's really close to LA.
One tip, if you drive a Mustang convertible like I did and you need to find the light to read your driving instructions at 5 in the morning, the light is located on the rear view mirror. I nearly took I-15 South instead of North which would have taken me to San Diego
Of course, the road to Vegas runs straight through the desert and at the time I was there it was almost 100 degrees fahrenheit which is somewhere around 40 degrees centigrade, which is pretty hot. My company had rented me a convertible for my stay but during the entire trip to Vegas I never rode with the top down.
For me it was the first time I had ever been to any desert so I took a lot of pictures. In total the first day I took 400 pictures (with the digital camera don't worry) of desert and Vegas.
The trip to Vegas is worth wile, especially if you like driving as much as I do. I had a Mustang V6 Convertible to drive for 250 miles one way.
The scenery on the road is unbelievable, there are actually people living in the middle of the desert without running water, electricity or anything. There's just a small trailer and a lot of junk surrounding it and that's it..... There are even people who have a speed boat on their terrain, in the middle of the desert!!! Half way to Las Vegas someone even built a water park with water slides, in the middle of the desert again...
I stopped at every rest stop on the way and at most of the towns I passed, from Barstow to Baker. And of course, once you cross the state line you need to see Jean. A small town filled with Casino's, a Roller coater and a factory outlet for clothing.
I reached Las Vegas just before 11 in the morning (I had left at 5 in the morning) after a nice 6 hour drive through the desert. |
| | Freemont Street experience When you go to Vegas, you must see this. The Freemont street experience is the oldest casino street in Vegas, which existed before there was a strip. They have a huge ceiling made by LG which is used as a giant projection screen that shows films. |
| | Something else I did more than just visiting Vegas. The second day of my trip I went to Red Rock Canyon, which is located just 20 miles from Las Vegas to the east.
For just 5 bucks you can drive the 12 mile scenic route through the canyon. The scenery is something I had never seen before. I can now see why most people like the United States so much. The landscaping is unbelievably beautiful |
