DONT EXPECT PORNOGRAPHY!! - UNDER CONSTRUCTION! | This was our starting point |
What is wrong to do a travel route also for funny names of places along it - especially if they all do not mean anything bad?
The interactive Michelin roadmap gives you the trip in all detail.
We did this travel in reality but of course far longer than in the 2 hours and 8 minutes given in the interactive Michelin roadmap to come from Kissing to Fúcking. Our stops were among others Augsburg (of which Kissing is more or less a suburb but in an other Landkreis and with an own Major, townhall etc.), we passed Munich (but did not stop there this time), enjoyed the idyllic Wasserburg am Inn, continued to Petting at the lake Waginger See from where we wanted to enter Austria over the Salzach bridge at Tittmoning but because the bridge was closed - only a few days before the floods of the Salzach river devastated the area around the bridge - so we drove north via Burghausen and crossed the river on the bridge leading to the Austrian Duttendorf from were we within a few minutes reached Tarsdorf and Fúcking. We shall of course provide pages of all these places! |
| Augsburg Cathedral, main entrance |
| | Augsburg This is the biggest and most important city along the famous Bavarian Romantic Road from Fuessen (with Neuschwanstein etc.) to Wuerzburg, passing lots of great and romantic places. Augsburg was an extremely rich city around 1500, the seat of the Fugger family, the richest people of the world at that time, they were financing empires and emperors and benefitting much from the detection of the Americas. See the Augsburg page to come.
From Augsburg (resp. Kissing) we took the road towards Munich but skipped it and passed it at the Autobahn until we saw the exit "Haar -Wasserburg". It was already late after we left the Autobahn so we decided to stay overnight somewhere near Wasserburg which we wanted to explore the next morning. We drove right into the town and looked for a suitable accommodation which was the biggest mistake we did on this trip. |
Wasserburg am Inn This small Bavarian city is the best preserved one of all the nice cities along the Inn and Salzach rivers, The river Inn forms an almost full elliptical loop leaving only a narrow isthmus connecting Wasserburg with the land around it. Our accomodation was the highly overprized Hotel Fletzinger - it had been the far better idea to take the Gasthaus Huber which had been much cheaper and offering the nicest panoramic view of Wasserburg. See my Wasserburg page for it.
From Wasserburg we drove to Petting at the lake Waginger See
| | Petting Petting is a village at the nice and warm lake (the warmest in Bavaria) Waginger See. But we did not stay for long here because we wanted to reach Fúcking soon in order to test the quality of the lunch at Gasthof Lindlbauer and to discuss there the availability of rooms for a VT meeting. So we continued directly to the frontier town of Tittmoning. |
Tittmoning Tittmoning is a small fortified town high above the Salzach river at the frontier between Bavaria and Upper Austria. A bridge provides a secondary frontier transit (the frontier is now insignificant, of course, due to Schengen). It is the shortest way from Petting to Fúcking but it was closed when we wanted to go it because of the floods of the Salzach river which devastated parts of the area along the banks a few days before we came so the forntier here was closed. We had to go a bit further north to the next bridge over the Salzach at Burghausen. |
| Old city seen from Castle |
| | Burghausen Burghausen, situated at the Bavarian side of the Salzach river consists of three parts - the longest castle in Europe (1,1 km long!), the old city with all the characteristics of a mediaeval Inn-Salzach town and the modern city with a lot of important chemical industry. We just passed the frontier here and came later back for a visit of the city and castle. From here it was not too long to reach Tarsdorf with the at least VT-wide world famous hamlet named Fúcking |
Braunau am Inn This city, which is the district capital of the district in which Fúcking is situated is infamous as the birthplace of Adolf Hitler but Braunau has some architectonic gems worth a little detour on the trip from Kissing to Fúcking
| Arrived after 20 hours 70 minutes |
| | Fúcking Finally we succeeded to reach Fúcking in time to get a delicious lunch at the Gasthaus Lindlbauer. For the rest I saw that not very much has changed since my previous visit but between the houses a bit of land is offered for sale as "Baugrund" which means that it is foreseen that a new house may be built here soon - maybe a new hotel for Fúcking??. |
