Just moved - to my new flat in Duisburg

by whvcebu - last update: Aug 7, 2006

As I saw it in January it looked like that, dark..

Dark and "smoky"rooms, .... Work began
I wanted to live near water as I always lived near to the sea, lake or ocean. What is more desirable in Duisburg than living in a nice quiet area along a river or a lake? There is only one alternative: River Rhine, Germany's biggest water way.

It is also very international. Switzerland, France Germany and Netherlands are countries along the river and the ships using the river are form those countries but also Russia, Poland, Czeck Republi, Austria, Antiqua, Barbados... just to name a few fals that have passed by my balcony

Therefore I decided to take a flat (belonging to an old lady) that looked like that before I moved in ....
Removing wallpaper, carpets and flooring

I threw out everything ...

A dark wood imitating styrofoam ceiling, 7 layers of old wallpaper, stained carpets soaked with nicotine .....

and replaced all with bright white wall paper, white ceiling and decorated wallpaper and a tile flooring made from terracotta

Another bright appearance ....

... with the replacement of curtains. Just using Japanese paper blinds and some Asian designs bring a quiet and cozy atmosphere
Japanese curtains - Paper and print
Bamboo as a wallpaper decor

A Bamboo "wall" in my living room ...

... and a Japanese floor lamp contribute to the bright surroundings in my living room

Baisc color on one wall is a dark red

and the furniture in white laquer with dark red laquer fronts

The Chinese picture says: "1. Step" - Go, Do it, carry on, etc. as a translated meaning.
First Step
a cozy atmoshere in "red and white"

A cozy atmosphere ...

.... and listening to the Japanese Koto music

My style

That's how I like it: Simple and tidy
Bright, simple and tidy
Enjoy the view from 3rd floor

My Empire in Red from Outside

In the 3rd floor is my balcony. When the sunshade is up, people know I am at home and enjoy the tim,e on my balcony watching ships, sun bathing, reading, listening to music ....
