Faces in Places

by Vintom - last update: Jul 21, 2006

People from Around The World.

Wise man of the Ganges.
I am using this as a place to show some of the portraits I have taken on my travels.. They are not meant to symbolise anything other then memories for me of people i've met on my travels. They all have touched me in a special way.

The Wise man of the Ganges stopped me to talk about many things, most of which were way above my head, but somehow I felt spirtually lifted by the conversation, yet I have no real recolection of what it is we spoke about! It was as though I had been given some kind of blessing, or karma for want of a better word. All I know is that I felt very good after this chance meeting.
Smiler

Hymalayan Boy

This young boy I encountered in a village high in the Hymalayan region of North India. I was in a village by the name of Chitkul. It was around the start of June and the snow was still falling in places, but this kid was walking around in a pair of flip flop open toed plastic sandals. They must have thought I was a sissy walking around with three shirts, a thick jumper and nice warm hiking boots. After all the tepreture was a balmy minus 2! and it was sleeting snow.
Playstation.

What I really Want

This young boy was a member of a Family I got talking to as I walked along the banks of the River Ganges in Varanasi, India. Life was very hard for them and especially this boy who suffered from Polio. Talking to him he told me that his biggest wish was to own a Playstation. Not much to ask for in this day and age, but a dream I fear he will never realise. How sad can life be, when you see all the trappings it has to offer those who have money, yet you know that you will never have the same simply because you are born into poverty. I wonder sometimes just how much I/We take things for granted.
Long Neck Girl

The Long Neck People

This young girl is a member of the long Neck Tribes people of Thailand.
Karen Tribal Woman

Tribal Woman

This Woman is a member of the Karen Tribel people of North Thailand.
Young Monk

Young monk

This young boy was a Monk i encountered in the North of Thailand..Just before I took the picture he was showing me a kitten which had just died. Two minutes after the picture he was playing with friends like any other kid his age...Not a care in the world and the kitten seemingly forgotten about for a while.
Just trying to keep warm.

Old Man of Chitkul.

This old man was just sitting on the steps outside a monastry in Chitkul, in the Hymalayan region of India, near to the Chinese border.
You lookin at Me?

Miss Punk Rocker

I met this woman in London, and despite her aggresive look, she was a very nice person to talk to. She did not mind posing for the camera one little bit.
