VT member PALS's story moved me, so I took one of his pieces of art on a sightseeing tour through Uppsala and Stockholm on may 23 2005. It was a beautiful sunny day, one of those wonderful summer days.
Here we are in front of Uppsala dome, the most famous landmark in Uppsala. It is evening, around 9 pm. As you can see, the sun is still shining, albeit very low. |
| University park and setting sun |
| | This is in the university park in Uppsala. This park has a lot of runestones from the viking days, and lots of trees and bushes. Now, in june, it is wonderfully green and lush. Notice the sun beginning its descent in the background. |
| | The concert hall of Stockholm and the market square Hotorget in front of it.
The concert hall is where every December 10th, the Nobel prizes are awarded prominent scientists from all over the world. Thereby, this might actually be the most widely known building in Stockholm, even though most people only see the interiors on tv.
The rest of the year it hosts conserts and other arrangements. It is currently closed to the public, but I will try and get inside...! |
| | Well, turns out we really could get inside. My friend knew the girl in the ticket boot and we told her the story, and she let us in even though the concert hall was closed. There were rehersals going on for a grand concert festival.
Now thisphoto is taken in the hallway of the concert hall. This is what it looks like behind the scenes. |
| | Ok, so here is the heart of things!! We are inside! We are now in the doorway to the actual hall itself. We cannot take flash photos because there are important rehersals going on, but if we are really really quiet, we can take a photo from the entrance doorway, opening the door to the hall just a tiny little bit, so the musicians won't notice us ... |
| | Taking a rest in front of the famous glass statue on the Sergel square in central Stockholm. |
| | What better way to end an evening, than to enjoy a dinner in the company of good friends? This is the garden restaurant of GH student club in Uppsala and we just had a fabulous meal. |
| | One more picture in front of the wonderful Uppsala dome, this time without me blocking the view!! :-) |
