From Mazatlan to Durango

by tulambin - last update: Apr 2, 2001

Central Mazatlan

I stepped out of the car to take this picture and they all started looking at me funny like I was another dumb yankee tourist w/ a camera! By the way there only a few mules and cows along the road no big deal.
If this was a clear day you could see Mazatlan from here all the way to the Pacific. About two hours drive or 90km (55miles) from Mazatlan to this spot, roughly nine thousand ft elevation right near El Espinazo del Diablo (The Devil's Backbone). Check out the Hawk in the center of the picture.
Almost there...
Just outside the town of El Salto

Ciudad De Durango

Just entering the valley north of Durango.
the rest of the picture from above.
Standing West of Durango in the mountains looking North.
The road to El Durango.
Facing south toward the Mazatlan natural port.
Since central Mazatlan (Playa Norte) has many hotels and a protected harbor with a sea wall. I wanted to see a nice beach before I left so I drove north only a few miles to reach this spot. This is looking south toward the center of town.
And this is facing north.

In the Mts going east to Durango

The Ford I rented in Durango from lovely Claudia at (Signature Rental) right across the street from the central autobus station. It's 320km (200miles) back through the mountains from Mazatlan a five hour drive one way that I never ever want to do a third time. Way to many curves, and just think 18 wheeler semi-trucks travel this road everyday.
Many many twists and turns.
and more turns...
