GeoCaching and other odds and ends

Treasure Hunting in Summit County

Jill's first cache
Jill discovered a new hobby. It's Geocaching. And it's FUN! Using a GPS tracking device and loading in the coordinates for a predetermined location the search begins.

www.geocaching.com has literally thousands of caches that have been planted all over the world. When you successfully locate a cache you enter your specifics on the enclosed log. Many caches have goodies inside. You take a goodie out and leave something for the next person.

Searches are rated by difficulty and terrrain. Here in Colorado many of the searches are on difficult terrain. The website shows caches in San Francisco that are located all over the city. These seem to require more brains than braun.

Yesterday we drove to top of Loveland Pass to attempt to locate a cache. It was supposed to be 600 ft. from the road but at just over 12,000 feet, the loose rocks and elevation proved to be too much.

Panama Canal

Lately I've had a craving for going through the Panama Canal. Here's a Webcam that lets you watch ships going through the canal, real time.

Mom and Dad in Antarctica

My parents just returned from a 40 day cruise on the Amazon and to Antarctica. I'm not sure I could survive on a ship for that long, but they sure got to see some amazing places, and they did it in style.

Hi Cavalletta - Grazie for BD greeting - it was just a ton of fun and I don't feel any older than I was the day before! <(•¿•)>
