Reserved for fruits grown at my place

by 1+1 - last update: Apr 5, 2007

Coming soon, to a screen near you!

Decided to devote this album to fruit that I'm growing. The photo above shows the different types of mangos I have (over 500 trees).
From top left: Kensington Pride (KP)
Top right: R2E2
Bottom left: Nam Doc Mai
Bottom right: Strawberry

With the rest of the plants, not all of them are producing yet, some are still a bit young. But those that are mature are the following:

Abiu
Akee
Banana
Barbados Cherry
Betelnut
Carambola
Cashew
Coconut
Jakfruit
Jamaican Cherry
Mango (5 types)
Sour Sop
Pineapple
Guava

Those that are in the flourish of 'youth' and bursting towards maturity:

Custard Apple (2 types)
Dragon Fruit
Mangosteen
Pepper
Vanilla

I'll have to join some of the pics tgether to try and fit them in to an 8 picture album, hopefully soon.
Cashews and Jamaican Cherries
...

Two different ones here. Top row is Cashew. The fruit is the nut which is below the stem (red in this pic). The stem swells and becomes fleshy, and delicious to eat. Some people think that the stem, often called a Cashew Apple, is the fruit. Because the nut takes tedious preparation I mostly just eat the cashew apple. I have a yellow one and this red one.

Bottom row is the Jamaican Cherry. More of a large shrub rather than a tree, I'm not too keen on the fruit. I prefer the Barbados Cherry, a totally different genus and species of plant, but similar small red fruit. Neither are related to the cherry most people recognise.
...

Again, two different fruits. Top row are Tamarind flowers and tamarind fruit.

Bottom row are Soursop fruit and Soursop flower.

Anyone who's tried eating Tamarind will know they're quite different, in a big way. I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise for anyone who plans to eat it so I won't make any further comment.

Soursop is very sweet, don't know why it has that name. There are different varieties of most fruits with different flavours so maybe mine isn't the same as others.

Hi Uncle! Hope life is treating you well and that you've had a good winter. How's the garden doing? Any signs of those pigs returning? Winter is definitely on its way here - sun lasting for shorter amounts each day - ho hum!! Gillybob greetings
