Santiago Calatrava (born 1951, Valencia Spain) This is the extension to the Milwaukee Art Museum, opened in 2002. (I've culled these images from my travel pages to illustrate some of my favorite contemporary architectures and their work. Of course, it's not meant to be definitive: these are all my own pictures, and I haven't been everywhere. I am an American, and I've traveled a bit in Europe as well as my home country, but I've never been to South America, Australia or Asia - all places with exciting and innovative architectures.) (I've listed the architects in alphabetical order - no ranking of preference is indicated!) |
Sir Norman Foster (born 1935, Manchester ENG) Foster's brilliant renovation of the German Reichstag, capped with the breathtaking glass dome. |
Frank Gehry (born 1929, Toronto Canada) The Pritzker Music Pavilion at Millenium Park in Chicago, opened in 2004. |
Helmut Jahn (born 1940, Nuremberg Germany) SONY Center in Berlin |
Richard Meier (born 1934, Newark NJ) The Getty Museum in Los Angeles |
I. M. Pei (born 1917, Canton China) The famous Louvre Pyramid |
Sir Richard Rogers (born 1933, Florence Italy) Lloyds Insurance, London |
