"The coast" Mombasa Travelogue by uglyscot

After arriving at Mombasa airport we had a quick look around the town - the Indian trading area, the old Portuguese fort, and over the ferry to the coast road south.
The different plants were interesting- coconut palms, macadamia nuts, and flowers.
Villages were small and the houses built of wood with straw roofs.

Up in the Shimba Hills we attended an educational event.
Afterwards there was a 'baza' where musicians played and sang.
The villagers themselves were dressed in their colourful native costumes.
Everyone congregated under the shade of a tree with wide spreading branches,

coconut palms

After living so long in north Africa, it was a welcome change to se another palm than the date palm.
The coconut palms line the road along the coast.Sometimes the palms grow so thickly, and yet the long slender stems do not seem strong enough to bear the crown of green .

Diani Beach

Diani beach is a typical tropical beach with turquoise water, white sand, coconut palms....
There are hotels catering for the tourist with gift shops , and resident Masai warriors.
