Come to my show!

Please come . . .
All of these things are from my senior thesis art show at New College. This is the ad that I put on postcards / posters to get people to come to the show.
My professor didn't like it, but I did. I still do. I think he thought it was too low-key.
After this picture was taken, I gave one away.

Excerpts from Church Signs

I got the idea for this series from one of my jobs in college. I used to take care of this autistic boy during services at a Presbyterian Church. He was the son of a History professor at New College who would get all freaked out about one second into services.
Anyway, they had this sign outside - like a marquee - and this week it said, "God takes pleasure in those who do His will." but a tree blocked the later half from my view and all I could see was, "God takes pleasure." I wrote it down, and would check other signs for similar things. A little over a year later, I had these three:
"Hell is only a second away."
"You are what you believe."
and, of course . . .
"God takes pleasure."

From Variations in Love Making

This was a quote taken from a 1970s book on human sexuality. It's one of my favourite finds. I got it at a Bradenton flea market for fifty cents.
my professor took this one with him
it's enough to make you sick

Healthcare U.S.

This was a quote I heard on television about the state of American health care.

Hospital Talk

This is sad because it's a quote from my Uncle Joe. He said it when he was dying of cancer at the Veteran's Hospital. I hated seeing him that way. He was such a good man.
i miss my uncle joe.
the middle one is my least favourite.

Imagining War Series

These are quotes taken from movies on various wars.

Manatee County Obituary

This is taken right from the paper. I think it's awfully telling about the state of things in Manatee County.
i really like these colours in this piece
this is my favourite piece

Overheard Haikus

These are haikus I collected by listening to people's conversations. I was looking for some pattern in random speech. It took a long time to find, but it was worth it.

Pfft! How could you do that?! Neurocam. It would be wiser not to paint a red mark on your back. So Neurocam is here on VT as well. It seems like the sun never sets on it. I know things most will never know. Et vous?
