Sziget Festival - some impressions :)

by MedioLatino - last update: May 27, 2005

Sziget Festival - the best thing in the summer!

Sorroundings of the main stage
Can't put enough emphasis on it: Sziget is just amazing! It's the "not to miss event" of the summer in Budapest!

This picture shows a birds eye view of the sorroundings of the main stage (you can see the back of it - it's the big black thing :).

In the lower part there is a playground, some foodstores including a huge "Milk bar" with lots of milk based healthy food (but then there is from pizza to thai food almost everything!). In the back it's the Pop tent and "some" more bars, pubs, etc...

But then, this is just a little part of the Island...you will see how much more it can offer! :)

Visit also my pictures page about the Sziget Festival 2004 under:

And see you soon on the Island! :)

Starting to be busy

At the main stage

Early afternoon at the main stage, just before concerts start (around 4 pm), but there is already a nice crowd :)

Karaoke

Of course there is Karaoke as well..on the Island you have everything! :)

People "supporting" a bling guy with not to much voice, but with a huge will to sing...why not, he is feeling good, we are feeling good, it's just as it should be! :)
People enjoying the performances
A good shower during a hot day :)

Taking a shower :)

To avoid to much dust during very hot and dry days there are watering cars in service. But then they are also quite useful if someone needs a shower or just some refreshment :)

Unknown bands

I would say that there are about 30 stages, some of them quite small or even just "symbolic". But sometimes these little ones are the best, where unknown bands are performing for their friends and for all those who happen to wander over there just in time :)

Thes strange ska-rock band was one of the funniest concerts I have seen last year :)
Rock and Roll baby!
the living "Stand up Jancsi" :)

Performances

Throughout the day you might bump into street performances in every corner of the island.

These guy was a huge "stand up Jancsi", as well call it, with a huge metallic hemisphere as a leg and lurching around showing the funniest faces...:)

There were also 2 french guys with an old Citroen CV2 pretending the car broke down and they trying to fix it...:) (pics about them under http://kep.tar.hu/apaksi and then in the Sziget folder which is the first in the list)

So international!

Sziget is very international. You can see bands from all over the world and also cultural shows from Africa, Latin America, Asia...from everywhere!

And of course the visitors are also coming from all around. Last year we have met people from Australia, US, Spain, France, Sweden, Germany and of course from all the neighbouring countries...hope to meet new country representants this year! :)
African dances
Gyros and dance :)

Party everywhere

Apart from all the "official" concert and party places, spontaneous parties are just everywhere on the island!

People getting together and starting to play drums on barrels and everything around, others sitting down with a glass of wine and singing and some dancing at one of the gyros places...:)

Attila, Thanks for your wonderful recommendations and photos of Budapest. I am visiting Budapest in June with a friend. Are there any new or especially interesting restaurants near the Kempinski Hotel? Thanks. Sincerely, Martha

Hi Attila - your comment reached me when I was already on the way to Budapest. But I'll be on some low-cost trips later this year and surely I'll repeat Budapest, if possible! Have a nice day - Karl
