Sunshine after long, cold and dark winter. This is the time of year when nature wakes up again. Also we Finns will wake up to outdoor life!

In spring everything and everyone wakes up again, or so it feels. People, who live in the cities find their ways to the street cafés and bar terraces. People, who own a cottage or live in a house begins to work on the yards, planting flower etc.

Mornings are chilly and even cold (0C to +6C) but days are getting warmer day by day, morning by morning. The wind is still cold, especially at the Finnish coast line.

Summer cottage by a sea

Finns begins to spend their weekends at cottages in countryside or doing gardening at their homeyard. At cottage the main thing is to relax and take it easy. We Finns usually do some physical work at the cottage and enjoy it a lot. It might be like woodcutting or carrying water from a well into a sauna for bathing as many times cottage saunas does not have running water. Strange part to all this is that cottage life is living without modern conveniences. However the modern cottages nowadays might be better equiped than homes…

Bird nest with eggs

Birds of passage returns to Finland. This bird nest on the photos was found behind our summer cottage (21-22.May). The bird (which I did not recognise) flew away when I came few metres from the nest.

Went to get my camera and took just one photo quickly. Then walked away without touching anything and hoping that I did not disturb the bird.
