| Page Views: 714 Last Visit to Perth: April, 2005 I Used To Live Here | The Pinnacles of Nambung National Park by bryINpoland - last update: Apr 22, 2005 |
The Pinnacles can be found in Nambung National Park, in Cervantes Australia. Thats 245 kilometers North of Perth. |
What are the Pinnacles in Short? The Pinnacles are pilars of limestone ranging from a few inches, to 4 meters in height. The limestone was once deep beneath sand dunes. The roots from trees and plants ontop the the dunes made their way to the limestone and muscled thru any crack and weakness they could find in the rock. The cracks then filled with sand. When the plants and trees above were burned away from bush fires. The sand dunes were blown away from harsh desert winds leaving the limestone exposed. The wind made its way between the cracks, breaking away the weak limestone, and leaving only the strongest still standing, which are now pilars of limestone, scattered throughout the desert. In the picture to the right. Next to my hand, you can still see the zig-zag cracks, where tree roots made their way down thru the stone. |
| Picking out the different shapes |
Different Shapes and Sizes Over the many years of being blasted by the desert winds. The pilars have taken on many different shapes and sizes. This one resembles one of the statues on Rapa Nui, or Easter island. |
| Becoming one with a pinnacle |
Some of the pilars have had wind tunnels blasted thru them, which make for fun photos. |
Sunset/Sunrise The locals will thell you, that the best time to visit and photograph the pinnacles, is either at Sunset or Sunrise. |
| Looking away from the sunset, to the rising moon |
Because of the sun, low on the horizon, you will be treated with the best light, that helps bring out all the different colors of the desert. |
| Sunset over a a pinnacle top and shrub |
With the beautiful colors that the sunset provided, it made it simple to capture the most breath taking pictures. |

A Must See! In my opionon, the Pinncales at Nambung National Park, are a must see while in Western Australia. I recommend a guided tour, so you can learn all the tiny details that the guide books wont tell you. A Great Time!!!! |

kokoryko Sun Mar 2, 2008 14:12 UTC I enjoyed your Perth page, Bryan, lots of information there! Parks and museums, just what I like. I read the story if the Batavia few years ago; I did not know the wreck had been recovered. Cheers from Europe. | Nemorino Tue Nov 8, 2005 08:31 UTC Nice tips with lots of interesting details, like the "petrified kangaroo droppings" -- were you kidding about that, or is it true? (Happy birthday, by the way -- it's mine, too.) | TheWanderingCamel Mon Oct 31, 2005 16:30 UTC I am SO impressed. You're obviously really enjoying living here in Perth and you've done the old place proud with this terrific page. Thanks on behalf of sandgropers everywhere - you're really one of us! leyle | nipper1 Wed Oct 19, 2005 09:12 UTC great page |
