"Hiking trip on Lantau Island" Hong Kong Travelogue by Vita500

Hong Kong Travel Guide: 8,656 reviews and 21,186 photos

Location : Lantau Island
Departure Time : 8:00 am (Central); 10:00 am (hiking trail)

After taking the ferry from Central to Mui Wo, we took the bus towards Ngong Ping (the big buddha) but instead of going all the way, we got off at the junction Ngong Ping (right)/Tai O (straight) from where the hiking trail leads further up into the moutains of Lantau Island.

The picture shows our group at the start of the trail, after a short but steep walk up from the junction.
In the background you can see the road towards Ngong Ping.

Picture taken along the way. YES, this is also part of Hong Kong... !!!

Short rest and picnic at a small waterfall along the way...

Another waterfall seen from the distance.
The building in the middle actually sold drinks for replenishment.
Really wonder how they survive considering the fact that we met only about 3 persons during our 5-hours on the trail.

Result of the encounter with a fellow hiker during a rest at a creek. Colourful, isn't it!

Sometimes falling behind can produce interesting results.

Sighting of the Big Buddha at Ngong Ping. Can you see it?!?

Our destination : Tai O on Western Lantau, a small fishing village that is slowly mutating into a tourist destination, selling all kinds of souvenirs alongside the original fishing products.

Arrival time : 3:00 pm
