John Paul II

by Maggies - last update: Oct 30, 2007

Kraków loves You, Kraków trusts You

Kraków, Market Square, 7 Apr 2005
1 million people gathered in Kraków on Apr 7th to walk from Market Square to Blonia - Krakow field to thank John Paul II for his pontiff.

"White March"

Many people taking part in the march were dressed in white or had some white accesories.
The former "White March" was organized in 1981,after the attempt on Pope's life. Krakow's students walked in silence then, dressed in white.
The mass on Blonia, 7 Apr 2005

Thankfulness Mass

Then, there was a mass in honour of John Paul II on Blonia. Most people were holding lighted candles so the whole meadow was iluminated.

John Paul's funeral

Our Pope's funeral was being shown on 5 big screens on Blonia. About 800,000 worshippers came again to say the last goodbye.
Listening to Requiem on Blonia, 8 Apr

Requiem

The same day, Sinfonietta Cracovia and Krakow Philharmonic Choir gave a concert for John Paul II. It started with Mozart's "Requiem" at 9.37 pm, the hour of Pope's passing. At the same time, lights in the windows in the whole country went down for few minutes.
Kraków, Archbishops Palace

Archbishop's Palace

Day and night, thousands of people pray in front of Archbishops Palace. This is where Karol Wojtyla used to stay when he was coming to Krakow. This is where the Pope was showing up in the window and was talking to the crowd, mainly young crowd. He would sing and joke and finally tell people to go to sleep cuz the Pope needs to sleep a little too. But he would still stay in that window, looking at people and smiling. So great and so common at the same time.
Standing in this window in 2002 he started singing: "Good Bye Pope, Hallelujah..." and the crowd was shouting: "Nooooooo". He knew he wouldn't come back anymore but nobody wanted to believe it.

Jan Pawel II - John Paul II - Giovanni Paolo II was a great Pope and a great man. He loved everyone and was showing it to all people, regardless of place, position and regardless of religion. And now the whole world is showing they have been listening to him, they learned a lot and they show their love too. No one ever gathered and united so many people, representing so many different groups together as John Paul II the Great. This is a true power of faith, power of love.
