In Rabat Carnival is more civilised and more family orientated, this is seen even in the costume competition that is held in the main square where the flea market is usually held just opposite Cafe Jubilee.
Another custom in Malta and in Gozo is to create a colourful float attached to some van or truck as the floats are very heavy at times even moving ones. |
| | What are these Colourful Floats made of ? I guess these floats are made of newspapers or paper and they are softened by glue and stuck and placed together and then sprayed with luminous paints. The floats usually are of some particular face or some monster. These floats just go around the streets parading and I am under the impression that at the end - the nicest float wins but I am not sure about this as I am not into floats much :-) |
For me going to Gozo during Carnival is just like going up to see what there is, relaxing and to break up the daily routine of life. But I must say this Carnival was real fun especially if you are a large group of people and you rent a farmhouse (well if you find one ). At this time most flats, farmhouses and apartments will be booked by the Maltese who come to participate this event in Gozo. | | |

| | This photo was taken in nadur though ! This costume was really good as the persons wearing the costume walked slowly about and did not speak to anyone.
There were loads of other costumes and I have loads of other photos but its hard to post everything here as space is limited. |
