"Yanbu Industrial City" Personal Page by arabian10
Yanbu Industrial City is located on the Red Sea coast some 350 kilometers northwest of Jeddah. Less than 25 years old, this modern Industrial center already plays a major role in Saudi Arabian economy.
Yanbu is the western terminus of the pipelines that transport natural gas and crude oil some 1.200 kilometers across the Kingdom from the Eastern Province to Madinat Yanbu AL-Sinaiyah. Most of the oil is exported to world markets. The rest, plus the natural gas, serves as fuel and feedstock for Yanbu's refineries and other industries.
About two-thirds of the city's 158 square kilometers consists of industrial sites. Yanbu is currently host to some 20 heavy hydrocarbon, petrochemical, and mineral facilities, as well as 37 light manufacturing and support operations. More than 20 new industrial plants are in various stages of construction or planning.
With this solid economic base, Yanbu is a focal point for investors of every kind. To date, industrial developers alone have invested over $12 billion at Yanbu, while the Royal Commission has committed nearly as much to infrastructure for the state-of-the-art city. The new industries planned for Yanbu account for another $20 billion investment.
Commercial and residential developers have followed the lead of the industrialists, supplying a wide range of goods, services, and housing for the community's population, which is currently 50.000 and growing by 10% annually.
Yanbu's growth is easy to explain. Good job prospects, beautifully landscaped residential areas, a choice seaside location, and numerous recreational possibilities offer people an exceptional quality of life.
For investors in particular, Yanbu's business climate and wealth of investment opportunities offer even greater promise of success and enrichment.
Most of the known mineral deposits in Saudi Arabia are to be found in the Arabian Shield. Located in the western region, the shield covers an area from the Kingdom's northern border to its southern tip and from the Red Sea to the mountains just west of Riyadh.
With its port on the Red Sea and its central location on the edge of the Arabian Shield, Yanbu is ideally situated for the development of industries.
Yanbu's Port is the largest oil-shipping complex on the Red Sea. Protected by offshore barrier reefs and extending along 15 kilometers of coastline, the port includes seven terminals with 25 berths and can accommodate tankers up to 500.000 deadweight tons.
Four terminals are dedicated to receiving and shipping liquid products, while a dry cargo facility handles general, containerized, roll-on / roll-off, and bulk cargoes. The port also includes a service harbor and marine support facilities.
Over the past two decades, a high-quality educational system has been evolving at Yanbu in step with community growth. Today, Yanbu's educational facilities and programs are widely recognized for their high standards and achievement levels. They includes:
Kindergartens, both public and private, for the youngest children.
Separate primary, intermediate, and secondary schools for Arab boys and girls.
Two international schools for the children of expatriate residents.
A full-fledged industrial college.
A continued-education program for adults.
Educational programs follow national policies, although many courses are introduced at an earlier age than normal to give children more years of exposure to a subject. Also, numerous extracurricular courses are offered.
Typical community schools and their facilities. In less than 20 years, the relative percentage of Arab students in community schools has climbed from only four percent to around 95 percent.
Yanbu contains a wide variety of spacious, attractive housing - ranging from detached villas to townhouses and apartments. Most of this housing - nearly 11.000 units – was constructed by the Royal Commission as the initial core of the community, while other homes have been built for their employees by companies and government agencies located in the city.
As nearly all available units are fully occupied, the Royal Commission is actively encouraging investment in new housing development for the community. A broad selection of residential lots is available to private developers, organizations, and individuals. Through its Investment Promotion Department, the Royal Commission provides full support to anyone interested in housing construction at Yanbu.
Yanbu Industry City produces its own power and freshwater in a single integrated plant located in the city's primary industry park.
Yanbu Industry City is industry and infrastructure, yes. But even more, it is a living community a city designed for people, where both Saudis and citizens of other countries can lead full and satisfying lives.
Because people come first, tradition has not been sacrificed to technology. Facilities are modern, yet Yanbu's character is unmistakably Arabic and Islamic. Graceful minarets and the calls to prayer, fountains and courtyards, the sounds of children at play - these reminders of a traditional way of life permeate the community and contribute immeasurably to the residents' quality of life.
