The hilariously named Assmanhausen is the first village you pass by after leaving Bingen. |
| | Trechtingshausen The prettily cascading houses of Trechtingshausen. |
| | Niederheimbach Niederheimbach with its long line of houses running along the Rhein. |
| | Lorchhausen The twin villages of Lorchhausen and Lorch. |
| | Bacharach This was one of my favourite villages of this stretch. It had beautiful houses and churches, with a wide and elegant tree filled promenade along the river banks. |
| | Kaub Kaub was pretty ordinary looking, relatively, except for its position under the dramatically located hotel high on the cliff. It also had the Pfalz out on the rock in the middle of the river, but when I passed through this was all marred by reconstruction work. |
| Oberwesel (mit der Schönburg) |
| | Oberwesel (mit der Schönburg) Just in case you forget, Oberwesel tags on the words "with the Schönburg" to its name. This is a very pretty looking village, and would prove a great place to visit even without the tremendous Schönburg. It has medieval walls, towers and a grand church in the middle. Probably my favourite of the villages on this little stretch. |
| | St Goarhausen Just around the corner from the world famous Loreley rock is St Goarhausen. This village is very beautiful, and looks amazing sitting underneat the increadible Burg Katz (Cat Castle). Remember, though, that the best views of this village are had from its twin on the opposite of the river: St Goar. |

Florida999 Thu Oct 19, 2006 16:21 UTC Wow! Must have changed since I was a kid..we used to have relatives there and visited several times. I thought it was a nice town | Nemorino Fri Oct 21, 2005 23:15 UTC I was disappointed by Bingen, too, but more for business reasons. My presentation there went really well, but they didn't buy after all. So I may be prejudiced, but I agree that it's not a very attractive town. (Neither is Rüdesheim by the way.) | mtncorg Wed Aug 24, 2005 14:31 UTC Bingen is indeed a transit point. Next visit, go upstream from there along the Nahe to Bad Kreuznach or even better Bad Munster and walk atop the Rotenfels. | sarahjayn Sun Jul 10, 2005 01:08 UTC aw, i loved bingen. maybe it was just the company i was keeping there, though . . . nice page, mister! |
