Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera This was taken from the courtyard of the Frida Kahlo Museo in Mexico City. It is SO easy to get to by taking the Mexico D.F. Subway. Exit the Indios Verdes line at Coyocán, then catch a bus for about 7 mins; then walk about 6 blocks ...
Step INTO Frida's childhood home that is now a museum collecting a few pieces of her art. |
| | Diego Rivera's Mural in the Plaza I wish you were able to feel the POWER that this mural has -- it devours a wall in this government building in Central Mexico.
It is part of a pictoral history telling what Spain did to the indigenous in the region. |
Dolores Olmedo Museum Collector Dolores Olmedo donated her home to the people of Mexico and it stands as my favorite museum in the country. Surrounded by free running ducks, peacocks and pure bred Mexican dogs, the house inside holds memorbilia from this woman's incredible life in addition to countess Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo works of art. It is a MUST SEE!
| | Diego Rivera's Workshop Diego Rivera has one of the world's largest collection of pre-Columbian art. Well, he was wealthy and smart enough to keep it in safe by building this Mayanlike fortress where pieces created prior to the 1st Century are enclosed in glass cases. On the middle floor, is his studio where you can see sketches of many of his masterworks-in-progress. |
Querétaro - los Acuaductos Querétaro, Mexico is about 2-3 hours north of Mexico D.F. depending on the bus you ride into the city on.
It is a quiet, beautiful and tranquil city that is modern and middle class but charming none-the-lesss. The photo of the aquaducts is to me, the most prominant symbol of Queretaro. They symbolize the love a man had for a nun who carried water to him daily. He had fallen so much in love that he built this aquaduct so that she wouldn't have to walk the distance.
| | San Miguel de Allende Busride I took a 32 pesos bus to San Miguel de Allende ... The highlight for me was being serenaded by these gold toothed musicians ...
LOVED them more than San Miguel de Allende ...
The bus ride cost about $3 U.S. |
Bernal: Juanita & Pilar These little girls are playing inside their compound. This is one of the last homes before you reach Peña Bernal.
| | Peña Bernal It takes about two hours to climb the Peña Bernal in Mexico. I am still looking for information about this rock known as 3rd largest standing structure in the world, but climbed it none-the-less ... I was EXHAUSTED and my legs were like rubber bands! DYing of thirst, the first sign I saw said, "3 beers $25Pesos!" Where was the WATER? JUICE?! HELLO!!! |
