| A longtailed hummer approaches the nectar |
Every morning we would get up early to watch the humming birds being fed at Inkaterra's Machu Picchu Pueblo Inn. Throughout the hotel property, which consists of small duplexes interspersed in a tropical cloud forest, there are strategically-placed hummingbird feeders that are fought over by dozens of flying jewels |
| | There are 14 species of hummingbirds that frequent the hotel, but their appearance depends on the season. We saw four types, and photographed three. |
We would argue which species of bird was the most attractive. Was is the one with the long blue tail?...
| | Or is it the smaller hummer with the jewel-encrusted back and bright orange belly? |
I think we settled on the long-tailed hummer, as we saw it less frequently.
| | No wonder some people collect anything thaty has hummingbirds on it. They are a joy to watch. |
How can you not love these birds?
