Entrance to Museums on 18th Street The American Jazz Museum and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum are small but very well done museums. They have a common entrance on 18th Street between Vine and Highland streets. Admission to one of the museums is $6.00 or you may tour both for $8.00. Get your ticket(s) at the counter to the right when you enter. |
Lobby for the Museums The American Jazz Museum and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum have a common lobby. It's the only place you are allowed to take pictures. The Swing Shop (gift shop) is in the background of this picture. If Virginia is working there, you will get to meet a very special lady, who also has great taste in music. |
| Entrances to Jazz Museum and Visitors' Center |
Entrances to Jazz Museum and Visitors' Center The entrance to the American Jazz Museum is under the golden canopy. They will start the video about the jazz district for you, if it is not already playing. The Horace M. Peterson III Visitors Center has displays and a video about the 18th and Vine area in the 1930's. (see also http://www.americanjazzmuseum.co m/) |
| Entrance to Negro Leagues Baseball Museum |
Entrance to Negro Leagues Baseball Museum For a baseball fan like me, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is fascinating. One can only wonder what the accomplishments of these talented players would have been, had they been allowed to play in the Major Leagues during their primes. The baseball diamond with the brass statues of famous African-American players at each position is definitely a work of art. (see also http://www.nlbm.com/) |
